Don't get me started on those content warnings around Hollyoaks.  Every bloody day, which means on the rare occassions where they are warranted they are meaningless.    At least you don't get them when watching on All4, though the post-credit scene is unwatchable due to the enforced credit squeeze which doesn't work properly (for me at least) and can't be clicked out of.

This became a bit of an issue on Big Brother towards the end of the Channel 5 run too. There was always a content warning - whether it was for bad language, nudity or just generic "content which some viewers may find offensive". I seem to remember Rylan even started delivering the voiceover for them in a humorous way as they became more and more preposterous. Totally took away the impact when they were needed in that instance too.

Yes! This is what came to mind for me. I think Marcus did the main show, but Rylan did it for BOTS?

I think that was a Viacom thing as they had similar warnings before Geordie Shore and Ex on the Beach on MTV.

Just before Hollyoaks on E4, the ident used was not a normal one (e.g. the people building it) but it was the one they use when announcing a content warning after a break.

This occured again today before the show and after a promo talking about how Hollyoaks is on TikTok. The same promo aired before Hollyoaks, the day I posted the quoted comment.

I've just noticed, C4HD on DTT and D-Sat has a vertical timing delay of about 15 to 20 lines (so in effect a black band at the top of the picture) However, it's only on ITN's output, and not in the ad breaks.

You'll only see it if your telly is set to 1:1 pixel (overscan off) mode

This probably belongs more in the Eurovision thread but I'd say the BBC are as guilty - the lower third comes up on so many postcards that the times there probably is a significant danger the impact gets lost.  Although I appreciate they have to show it and there isn't much they can do about it otherwise.  That said, I don't recall such warnings for stuff like the Superbowl halftime?

As an aside, I wonder if a trick has been missed for live imports where this is an issue where you select a channel where flashing images and strobe effects is going to be a consistent issue during that particular programme, you could put a flag in the EPG metadata, and have the option to have a warning come up (similar to the PINs on the movie channels where adult content airs pre watershed) saying "Many flashing images.  Are you sure you want to watch?"

Blame Compliance. Maybe they were being over cautious, but the excessive warnings are coming from them.
(That or some poor sod has to provide video clips and a letter to Ofcom explaining their actions if a viewer complains and found in breach)

I noticed this yesterday when we briefly flicked over to C4 News. I assume it's not a regular occurrence!

Let's hope not. It's unusual  to have an fault like that for longer than a couple of minutes, but for (at least?) two days running it's quite something !

Difficult to tell, because the up-scaler in your telly will overscan the 704 x 576 image, in most cases quite significantly

Compare the ticker position on BBC News Channel between the SD and HD versions, and you'll see what I mean.

My guess is the error will be on C4SD though, as the SD output is just a downscale of the HD version.

Depends if it was a problem with the studio itself or the line from ITN to Red Bee - we may need to wait until 7pm to see!
