Peculiar lack of build up and fanfare. Just a social media post out of the blue on a Sunday morning. A bit different to the way they announced Whitaker.
In terms of Ncuti Gatwa, I must admit, I have never heard of him and don't recognise him from anything I've watched previously. Will reserve judgement on his performance when his episodes go out.
"Good evening. Dull, grey, cold, miserable - and that's just me. The weather hasn't been great, either."
That's a great choice for the role. He's also been in one of the biggest shows on Netflix, so hopefully they will have plenty of hype around the show with him.. alongside people being excited for RTD Era 2.
But what a strange way to announce it.. just out of the blue like that. He'd not even been rumoured - from what i'd seen - as everyone seemed stuck on Olly & Lydia from It's A Sin.

I’m intrigued. It’ll be interesting considering I haven’t seen any of the stuff that they’re in but that certainly doesn’t discount their acting skills as a lot of people seem pretty excited after this announcement. Nobody had heard of Tom Baker or Matt Smith before their stints as the Doctor either so we’ll have to see how this goes. As I said, I’m definitely intrigued though.

He's brilliant on Sex Education. Seems a very low key announcement though - could have saved it a few hours for the BAFTAs.

Congrautations to Ncuti Gatwa on becoming the new Doctor Who! Can't wait to see him on screen!
To anyone wondering, his name is pronounced "Shoo-ti Gat-waa"

Definitely the lowest-key announcement since David Tennant in 2005. Makes me wonder if it was always intended this way, or if their hand was forced by something getting out?
In any case, best of luck to Ncuti!
I really don't like where this era of RTD is going. I've got a bad feeling about it all.
Ncuti Gatwa is known, he's a global star. They are going for the global Hollywood type of market.
The show meant to be a quirky British show not a shine Hollywood show.
I'm no doubt Ncuti will be a good actor but the direction the show looks to be heading is concerning.

I think based on previous relatively unknowns signed to take on epic well-loved shows/dramas/game-shows, that kind of thing tends to work pretty well on the whole. Good luck to Ncuti - never heard of him - but he sounds pretty good & up for the role!!
