Channel 5 Thread

Can see what they're trying to do but it doesn't really work. Do wonder though if we're heading in the direction of the linear broadcasters just calling their on demand services the BBC, ITV, 4, 5 etc. rather than branding them in their own right, meaning they just have to promote content as on one brand and then it's up to viewers if they interpret that as the channel or the on demand service.

TBH I'm not sure what they could rebrand it as because this is the third iteration after Five Download and Demand 5.

I've always thought CBS ditching the All Access brand was pretty short sighted as it could easily be applied to their non-US brands too (not that 5 All Access is that great a brand). Presumably Paramount+ will be the more promoted brand once that launches, though given by their own admission C5 target those who are less likely to stream content it may not be a compatable partnership.

Maybe it's an attempt to phase out the 'My5' brand, starting by making the "My" part less prominent in the new catch-up logo.

The Apple TV My5 app has been updated with the new branding. Seems to of been the first to be updated, even ahead of the website. Some images from the App Store below.

Have to say gold works really well as a colour for the logo.

There seem a shift towards promoting My5 in the last year or so. With the increase of original drama, the service has seen an uptick but I think with linear seeing drops, the focus now needs to be increasing eyeballs on My5.

The gold is good, but I think they have made the "My" too small. It kind of blends in and makes it difficult to see.

The Android app has been updated with new branding. Also the tv app now has vertical navigation, seems to be what most streaming services are doing now.

I know criticising Channel 5 documentary titles is like shooting fish, but I'm quite impressed that "Burger King: How Do They Do It?" is entirely about, er, McDonald's.

It actually was a change to the advertised programme to be fair to them! Must have been some last minute legal thing or something. Interestingly the McDonald's doc just had an image of a Big Mac going into the break with no title whatsoever!

ah, fair enough then - I missed the start!

Presumably that’s how they make them, so they can change the title every time they show it.

I watched it, and it was actually very interesting how they've constantly tried ot change their image throughout the years.  I also never realised that it was started by the two McDonald brothers.

I wonder when they'll show the promised one about Burger King?
