The Guardian are reporting that Dateline London is due to end later this year, after 25 years:

I'll admit I've not watched it much in the past few years, but it would usually be an appointment to view for me back in the day - the 'how others see us' element isn't really replicated elsewhere on UK TV, and given the budget (£70k a year) you'd hope there'd be room for it in the schedule.

I'm intrigued to know what is included in that £70k or perhaps what isn't. I presume that excludes talent cost plus the gallery team and floor manager - presumably this is just covered as part of a news channel shift. Do the guests receive a fee for appearing?

This is really sad news.

For a long time, Dateline has been my favourite programme on the BBC News Channel. I think this is a massive blow, especially with its positive reception over the years. The Guardian's article references 'healthy modernization', so I presume it would have happened anyway.

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did really. The Context is now kind of doing something similar on a nightly basis I guess.

Surprising to see that Dateline London will be axed this September giving that how audience appreciated with this programme, particularly when it air overseas via BBC World News. I Believe, it appears due to the phase rebrand and shakeup of BBC News department under Deborah Turness. One that i will see is the retirement of Huw Edwards as BBC News at Ten newsreader next year.

I don’t think you can blame Deborah Turness who hasn’t even started yet. Read the end of the Guardian article and if anything Guthrie sees her as the only chance of survival.

World Weekends will never be the same. Dateline London was a staple of their weekend programming and axing it is a huge mistake. What's next? HardTalk????

I've enjoyed Dateline London for as long as I've been able to watch the NC. A sea of intelligent conversation from an international perspective among the rolling news.

Presumably they'll keep the likes of The Travel Show and Click because they attract sponsors to BBC World News.

Click is unlikely to be going anywhere, as they have just relocated the show's production to Glasgow.

I wonder to what extent it’s axing is to do with the programme not being ‘produced’ in-house? I also wonder whose budget pays for it - NC or WN (assuming they still have separate budgets, of course).
