Being rumoured that a short series will be pre-recorded in South Africa in the summer in case the show can’t air in Australia as usual in the Winter. Should the show air as normal then the reserve series will air early on in 2022.

I dearly hope it manages to get back to Australia this year, and (without tempting fate) it seems more likely than not as things stand. But this does feel like a win-win - even if Australia can't happen, South Africa has got to be an improvement on Wales.

Now reporting that the South Africa series will be an ‘All-Star’ series.

The Sun’s report about an All Stars series does seem to sit slightly better.

Only issue is when to air it, if they do get out to Australia? With Limitless Win, SNT & BGT we don’t exactly have an Ant & Dec gap until the summer now!

They’ll probably just have double Ant and Dec in the January period.

I doubt they would as it's usually a low advertising part of the year but it could slot in nicely in the week after the World Cup, then continue the week after Christmas and if necessary into the New Year.

Week after Christmas is set to have The Voice Kids again.

This does feel like a bit of extra content they don’t really need, but as a contingency for the main series it seems sensible.

I guess they've decided they don't want a third year in Wales under any cicrumstances, then.

It all seems a bit odd. Surely planning both venues - Wales and Australia would be cheaper than filming a South Africa series that doesn’t really have a solid airing date and won’t be live so therefore wouldn’t have the usual vote offs etc.

I imagine they've decided that Wales was such a bust they don't want to do it again, even as a backup plan. The series there really didn't seem to work in my opinion for various reasons, lacked a lot of atmosphere, and the time difference actually seems to help things.

ITV Studios already has an IAC set in South Africa so they wouldn't be spending too much money.

I don't personally see the demand for an 'all stars' series if it just contains celebrities who got quite far to begin with, the novelty factor of seeing them do the same things as they did before again would wear off quite quickly I reckon

Would be nice to see the likes of Craig Charles given another go but I seem to remember they already offered that chance to him and he turned it down

At least the pre recorded element will at least mean the same celebrity doesn't get picked over and over and over again for the trials!

Yeah, they usually use it for the Australian version of the show. A version set in Australia wouldn't be as exciting for Aussies, though they did of course use the Australian set for the Australian show when COVID happened.

Yes, and they completely take the piss out of the UK version by calling it "the so called jungle".

It's probably unfair to blame the woes of the last series completely on the Wales setting - obviously the storm cancelling a weekend worth of shows didn't help but that was a freak event and the Aussie version has often come close to coming off air due to forest fires and other related issues down there. With the caveat things can always change as things stand I think it's highly unlikely they won't be able to film in Australia in the autumn - indeed they probably could have filmed there last year due to exceptions for filming content, but it wouldn't have been a good look.


Switching to South Africa for an All Stars series absolutely makes sense to offer a different experience for contestants and viewers alike, and perhaps test the water for future series there, but pre-recording it just makes it dead on arrival IMO, especially in the UK market.

I know what you mean, but to be fair most Australian’s don’t live in the jungle. That will be factor though, but also it probably allows a similar production schedule to the UK version and the Germans use Australia set around the same time of year as the Aussie series takes place

It makes sense to use the South African set over recording a series in Wales. The set up is going to be more permanent in South Africa so will probably work out cheaper and the novelty of Wales had clearly warn off by the second series made there. 

Making it All Stars makes sense, as it seems likely at this stage it will just be a bonus series, having another series with new celebs would seem a bit odd a month or two after a regular series especially as it seems highly likely the regular series will happen.
