Interesting seeing that BBC World coverage with a strap referring to "Princess Diana", which was never her official title (much like her daughter in law isn't Princess Catherine).

I think the BBC South DOG was from the period when BBC One had just launched on DSat, and a handful of English Regions were available on the red button

I happened to stumble across this, a video of BBC South Today and it's titles. Except I noticed that BBC One South still had a DOG at that point?

I might be wrong but only some regions used the DOG for a short period and it was used on digital only rather than analogue.

I think it was phased out later that year (I am aware BBC ONE Midlands used one on their digital feed)

It was when the English Regions launched on DSAT (of which there were 5(?) available) they labelled them all - I assume so people knew if they'd selected the wrong region. It went away by the time all the regions were available on 101.

Cor, that's quite something to turn up. Some interesting points: 23m is where they go into proper obit mode (the script hasn't changed a lot over the years, has it?), followed by purple Astons which I guess was also part of the obit template, as I'm not sure I remember it from the World package of the time. Nick Higham, from 'another of our studios' looks a bit like he was the first reporter who could be dragged out of bed and into TVC, and the obit package voiced by Martyn Lewis suggests he might not have left the building between the late newsflashes and the early bulletins the next morning (Obviously it would be mostly in the can but these things are generally given one last polish before they go live). The YT comments point out that Nik Gowing changes studios while the obit is playing - indeed there's a bit of a jump on an otherwise stable recording, which may well be a non-sync cut as network changed sources?

The studio change is subtle but looks like he goes from sitting in that BBC World newsroom studio to sitting in front of an image of that studio. 

I wonder why, I'd have thought it best to let them continue in the same studio until the national news studio took over for the special an hour or a later.

Also point of note:  You can just see the beige walls of the TV-am set behind the bright yellow set of the Wide Awake Club.  Same studio do we reckon, just shifting the sofas?  Or did they have more than one presentation studio at Camden Lock?

They definitely had more than one studio at TV-am but I think Studio 2 was only used for the news. I was always under the impression that the Wide Awake Club was in the same studio as Good Morning Britain, I always thought it was on the other side of the studio from the sofas. Of course, this was during the TV-am strike so maybe they were making it as simple as possible. It was always hard to work out the geography of the TV-am set because the camerawork was so static and there were lots of fixed shots, certainly during the strike period.

One of my televisual holy grails is to see an episode produced by TSW because I distinctly remember on at least one edition the "A TSW Production" endboard was on a big bit of cardboard held up by someone in the crowd. Funny the things, eh?

There were two studios but I believe the smaller one had a small scale version of the GMB sofa set. Not entirely sure why.

Was the practice of a kids presenter doing effectively continuity announcing from the sofa on Bank Holidays to do with avoiding having to set and strike the WAC set?

Both national and “local” continuity there, with Glen Thompsett at LWT announcing into Stars in Their Eyes and Maggie Mash in Leeds voicing the revised schedule/menu and introducing the News. 

The “Hearts” era was a bit odd in some ways as it was quite common for generic ITV/ITV1 continuity to be networked from CAR/LWT in the case of breakdowns, programme changes etc (more so than previously, anyway). Perhaps in this case LWT are acting as Nominated Contractor if the network was in “obit mode” (like the morning after Diana’s death) or similar on 9/11. It wouldn’t have been at all difficult to cue the regions to announce into Stars, so evidently the generic announcement was “deliberate”. I wonder if STV/SMG took that same announcement.. were they still showing ITV branded trailers in this era or was everything rebranded as Scottish/Grampian?
