If my memory serves me correctly we were still using reel to reel tape in BBC local radio too. I think I had access to SaDiE as an editing tool, but only because I used to make all the station trails every week. And those used to get mixed onto carts for transmission. I think it was as late as 1999/2000 that we started doing more editing digitally. It had vanished on FM, but the LBC name had returned on MW the previous year as LBC 1152. News Direct was fairly decent before ITN integrated it with their other rolling news services and started to do it very cheaply. However it's still going as LBC News YouTube Gold - James2001 - 30-03-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=779 time=1617053025 user_id=1003 Wrote:News Direct was fairly decent before ITN integrated it with their other rolling news services and started to do it very cheaply. I'm surprised at tape still being used in 1997 TBH - I would have thought that any editing in the mid-to-late 90's would have been done on MiniDisc? On an RSL I worked on in 1996 the music came off CD but there was a very rudimentary - built in-house - playout system, running on Windows 3.1, for production and ads. Were carts really being used that late - again, I was under the impression production (and commercials) were digital for most stations by the end of the 90s, and if not they'd be on MD? However it's still going as LBC News It's odd - now it seems logical to have them that way round, but from the time they split frequencies in the late 80s the convention was to have the more informal, chatty phone in station on MW and the premium upmarket news and information led station on FM (although they had lots of simulcasting, which is what led to their license loss) YouTube Gold - Mateus Honrado - 30-03-2021 Here's a compilation of clips from the first five years of MTV Europe. https://youtu.be/iSiekYIlbQM YouTube Gold - KK! - 31-03-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=865 time=1617081060 user_id=1003 Wrote:Yes, when Chryalis took over LBC in the early 2000s they moved the talk format to FM and the rolling news to MW, branding both with the LBC name. News Direct also used some slightly dodgy audio branding. It also changed its name about four times; first “ITN News Direct”, referred to as ITN by presenters, then “News Direct”. Once it changed to LBC, presenters kept accidentally saying saying ITN despite that being years ago by that point!
