Holby City to end

Yes that's correct - the current cast and cast along many actors and behind the scenes staff were all sharing stuff on social media towards this week as filming concluded.
The beginning of the end in yesterday's episode with Holby's surgery given a three month stay of execution before being shut down. Another 11 episodes left (yesterday was 39/50 per the schedules), which assuming there will be no breaks in the schedule, means the last episode will be on March 22nd.
Has Waterloo Road started filming yet? No news on the second show yet either.

TV Forum's 21st Birthday.
That was an emotive end to the series. No standard credits, instead the credits rolling over pictures of the cast, past and present, and a slower version of the theme and a thank you to the viewers, cast, crew and family of Holby over the past years and a special thanks to the NHS.

Holby Will be missed.

I can quote that, end of an era.
A fitting end giving Rosie Marcel the final lines, followed by the business as usual wide pan of the hospital entrance clearly influenced by The Bill's final episode.

The end credits were a nice touch.
That was a fantastic finale. The end of an era.
They should not have killed Jac off!!
She should have moved over to Casualty. The fact Rosie hated her being kill off to is just annoying, I get why they did it but it would have been better going down them all fighting together route. She could have been a huge asset to Casualty especially them losing Connie.

In my view the BBC have made a huge error here.

Even if they struck a deal so first play was on UKTV Drama and then on BBC iPlayer or something. Cut the eps to 45 mins.

The BBC will have to move to a two tier model at some point. It will be forced. If it launched something like iPlayer+ Holby would be a way of pulling people in every week. This feels like a political move to me. BBC One have nothing for Tuesdays now and they won't find another show or soap to match it. The fact some of the cast would have moved just make it even more frustrating.

Soap as a day in day out might not be popular as they once was but have a regular show each week at low cost compared to the big dramas it what will pull people in to a subscription. Keep them coming back.

Sorry I know this is a presentation forum but this just angered me. Something is going on at the BBC at the moment and it's killing the best of the BBC. To many people with politics background working at the BBC and to much influence from outside. The BBC should be a creative place for the best of British in all of it's spectrum. It should be run by creative people! It will be a sad day if the BBC goes. We have a party in charge who are all about money and business but this is not what the BBC is about it's about art, culture, us not profit. There to many distractions trying to tell us how bad the BBC is but it's a smoke screen to fool us.

The BBC could have been so much more at this point it's such a shame those with power (not just in politics) have stopped it. If they had let the BBC flourish for Britain then this show would still be on the air. Guaranteed!

I’d say the ending was influenced by the ending of ER

I doubt Waterloo Road will rate any better but in the discussion, or lack of, around the final episode of Holby airing I've seen nothing to suggest it's the wrong decision. A few hardcore fans will miss it but as finales go for programmes which have ran over 20 years it has been pretty low key.

Holby had simply run out of stream. At one point the Elstree battery farm was producing 60x52 per year which is hard to keep up the quality. See EastEnders for similar issues when they produce four episodes per week.

Ironically the final series with the Covid reducing 40 minute episodes and the announcement of the axing gave them something to play with which led to one of their better series for at least 10 years.

Personally I think Casualty is also in intensive care, but when they're given the tools, they can come up with some decent drama. That's the issue when production costs come down if you're an all year round production, but the programme was much better when they'd do two series per year.

In this video 'Our Holby City' two cast members are interviews from Holby. Jaye Jacobs who playes Donna and Alex Walkinshaw who playes Fletch. Both of them are interview on the Casualty set. I wonder if this is a hint for the future?
I think getting rid of that character is a main problem! They could have gone else where and they were willing to. They don't come round often and could have helped another show.

The point I was saying is in the streaming world there is no set times. So one episode could be 40 mins then the next 55 mins. They also could have gone back to two series a year to improve the show. Also the money saved from losing a couple of episodes could have gone back into the show. The point is there were options and they weren't taken.
