Yes that's an odd comment because it's never ever been officially called "Radio 6". For the first five years the official name was BBC 6 Music, they only added "Radio" to 6 and 7 in 2007 when they introduced the uniform station logos.

Sounds on Fire TV has been updated with a new intro (BBC Sounds logo sans icon with animated orange/black gradient), top centred BBC blocks on the home Screen and the Sounds icon now appears in the side bar. The icon for the actual app however remains unchanged.

Initially it was called ‘6 Music from the BBC’ on air. The stranger one was perhaps BBC7, which sounded like a TV channel, but was a radio station (now BBC Radio 4 Extra’).

I assume there was some strategic decision around not using the word "radio" in the then-new digital only stations.

The idea was these stations were not on traditional radio but on the internet and DAB.

And meanwhile you’ve got services like Spotify and Sonos labelling as ‘radio’ what are essentially themed streaming jukeboxes because the term is seen as so valuable and desirable. I think the BBC was wise to row back on this policy.

The new BBC Sounds iOS app has launched, featuring the new blocks but still uses the old station logos
