The Jo Brand comedy sketch clip show on c5 is intriguing me as its theme tune is a bit of library music that Look North (Leeds) used to use for the Saturday sports results bulletin

For a sports theme, Midweek Sport Special doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.

Both by Mike Post - 'Hill Street Blues' and 'NYPD Blue'.

IIRC that version of Overkill somehow managed to last three series, though it never really suited the title sequence from Series 2 onwards. Though it lived on as the underscore to the better known theme.

Australian kids TV of the 90s had a few memorable themes:

The final episode of Eldorado had a version with vocals on the end credits

https://youtu.be/1zZCtK399sM

I do wonder if the lyrics were written along with the tune (but never used) or added specially for the last episode.

The first line being "It was over before it had begun" makes me think it may be a later addition.

My phone browser is struggling with some of these posts with multiple embedded videos.

Anyway there's no better theme tune than this. It is the best

Eldorado

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_May#Post-EastEnders

Following their collaboration on EastEnders, Julia Smith and Tony Holland commissioned May to write the theme tune for the new Eurosoap Eldorado. May reworked a song called "When You Go Away" which he had written for his ill-fated musical Mefisto, based on Goethe's Faust, adding Spanish guitars to make it more relevant to the Eldorado project. An instrumental version of the theme was used for the opening and closing credits. However, the vocal version of the song was recorded by Johnny Griggs, and was used over the closing credits of the final episode.

Guess that answers where it came from, the actual passage is cited to a book. I have to say, having watched a bit of Eldorado, the music was probably it's best attribute.

It has been great to have 'Soul Limbo' back on the TV recently...

Also, a friend sent me the old theme tune to CBC's Hockey Night In Canada, 'The Hockey Theme' (since replaced by 'Canadian Gold' after CBC lost the rights to the song in 2008!) recently and it's been in my head ever since:

Having no frame of reference for hockey, I was half expecting that to be this, familiar to listeners of Fighting Talk on 5 Live as Greg Brady's intro music

Apparently when that rights deal you mentioned expired the guy behind that song let it be known that he was open to offers to use it as a replacement

Simon May is winning so far.
