Theme Music Appreciation Thread - Blubatt - 12-08-2021 I was doing research for my online RP, when I stumbled across the BBC's Decision '79 election coverage, where the famous 'King Arthur' music first made its debut. I now believe it to be one of the best pieces of theme music ever used on Television. And the original is the best one, because it sounds like its a cut off of a prog rock album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsKfRi6kKkc&t=38s With that, what are some of your favourite soundtracks to TV Idents, Shows, Packages, Test Cards, et al. Theme Music Appreciation Thread - Stuart - 12-08-2021 I love the 'Decision 79' logo. As iconic as platform shoes and flared jeans.

Although I'd still rather eat dirt than actually watch SouthernButtocks™, regardless of its theme tune. I may be alone in favouring the Dominic Glynn version of the Doctor Who theme (used solely for Season 23 / The Trial of a Time Lord), though... https://youtu.be/_xMkDIRG_fU Theme Music Appreciation Thread - Nigel - 14-08-2021 The a tomorrow People theme… use to scare the pants off me as a young child. https://youtube.com/watch?v=Ei7i7RFvrUM&feature=share Theme Music Appreciation Thread - Blubatt - 14-08-2021 Really liking these themes. I forgot another one of my favourites from the pre-me times (anything before 1997) Amen to that. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star would be more arresting than the current beeps, quite frankly... ? In fact, part of this 1990s theme for ITN *did* sound like something out of a nursery rhyme... https://youtu.be/0irFla1e6GM How the blithering flip was that ever deemed to be "news"-appropriate?! It makes me think of either the White Rabbit in Disney's Alice in Wonderland singing "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date..." and/or the Munchkins in The Wizard of Oz singing "The house began to pitch, the kitchen took a slitch, it landed on the wicked witch in the middle of a ditch..." Bizarre. How fantastic and revolutionary the David Lowe "drumbeat & pips" style themes originally were has been ruined by a combination of sheer longevity and the endless subsequent tinkering. Newsflash: Nothing will still sound "fresh" after more than two decades! ? I fantasise about some sort of updated version of the old Nine theme that you've posted becoming the basis of a totally new generic sound/look for all BBC News output. Fat chance. You never know, though. Somebody in 1999 decided that orchestral themes were passé, and that percussion was the way to modernise. Somebody now deciding the exact opposite, is precisely the kind of thing that often happens. Trends tend to go in such cycles. So maybe, just maybe... ? It could even be argued that the increasing layers of "strings" ? etc that have been slapped onto the David Lowe themes as they've been Trigger's Broom-ed™ (a.k.a. Sugababes-ed™) to death over the years, means that we've been slowly edging back to "orchestral" for ages anyway. Theme Music Appreciation Thread - Roger Darthwell - 15-08-2021 This is my favourite, also from pre-me times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxOWiksvti4 Ah, I'll just throw in the whole lot, I like them all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDXpyvEB6go |
