Talking about the weather on Breakfast time wasn’t there a row with the met office when it first started as they were not using the met office employed forecasters? I believe Francis had to get his weather data from elsewhere ?

Yes, Francis' forecasts were supplied by Imperial College as the Met Office refused to supply them because it wasn't Francis' "turn" to do TV. I don't know what they did when he was on holiday and the regular forecasters did them.

Even though he'd been doing TV for years, just on ITV. He swapped channels with Jack Scott who replaced Francis on Thames

Yes Francis Wilson was very different to other weather forecasters at the time, I think the phrase is 'one for the mums'

Mind you looking at episodes of Thames News from that time it had quite a unique look in general with its brash chromakey and blocky graphics

I think that the weather on Breakfast time was on of the first uses of ‘paintbox’ ( ask your mum!) to be used on screen. If I remember Francis had moving satellite picture as a time when the rest of the BBC were still tracing around static satellite pictures from a few hours previous.

The weather on TVAM when it launched was very random with a retired navy commander -Commander Philpott basically shouting the weather every half hour with very basic graphics.
