Politics North from Leeds is occasionally shown on BBC One HD and it really does look like someone smeared Vaseline over the lens.

I can't comment on Leeds, not being my area, but don't forget that virtually everyone who watches the regional news from there today is watching on an HD screen, and so either their TV or their set top box is upscaling the image from the SD broadcast. The BBC doing the upscaling at source, and broadcasting with greater bandwidth, must improve the picture from that seen today, even with no changes at source.

It will. But what we're talking about here (Regional BBC appearing upscaled or otherwise on BBC 1 HD DTT/S-Dat) isn't happening until next year

The site had provisional listing placeholders for the 15 new regional stations alongside the message: "Broadcast schedule begins on Thursday 21 October 2021."

A BBC spokesperson has now denied that the channel launches are imminent, however, telling Media Mole: that the schedules had appeared as a result of a "technical error" online.

The corporation remains on track to launch the regions in HD by the end of next year as planned.

That would seem to explain that, then. Though I note that all the English HD regions are still visible on the Schedules page at the time of writing. If it's an error, it isn't one they're rushing to fix.

That would seem to explain that, then. Though I note that all the English HD regions are still visible on the Schedules page at the time of writing. If it's an error, it isn't one they're rushing to fix.

I like the way Media Mole describe as, quote 'speculation' what they reported a couple of weeks ago (see post 1 in this thread) as, quote; '....look set to....'

All a good ruse. The nonsense reached the Daily Express yesterday, which was probably the catalyst for the Beeb to step in and make a statement.

I apologise if I misled anyone (it was never my intention, I feel misled myself) and with anything, it's right to scrutinise it, but the switch to HD is an interesting talking point and has at least sparked off a discussion ready for next year.

Presumably, we're only a week away from them actually publishing a schedule for those HD regional channels? That's if they are to happen.

If HD regional channels launched on October 21st as the previously rumoured, it will be likely only avaliable at IPlayer presumably, as these channels will only terrestrially avaliable at the end of 2022.

Long term the SD versions will go, at least from Sky who are wanting to remove SD channels from their platform totally

Interesting that nowhere in this thread mentions that we basically got rid of SD on Virgin in the nations during the launch of BBC Scotland.

Although from what I heard it wasn't so much intentional, but Virgin cocked up so many times when they landed on the current layout of HD by default the nations were like "ok whatever" and we've been fully HD ever since.

One odd issue tho: BBC Two Scotland SD no longer exists as a channel in the EPG. Therefore my recordings of W1A from said channel refuse to play because the V6/TiVo doesn't recognise this as the same channel as BBC Two HD.

In theory, they could create HD versions of all the BBC One regions (with regional news either in true HD or upscaled) and feed them to iPlayer. Currently iPlayer uses SD streams for these channels, but only because that's all that exists. iPlayer isn't directly affected by what Freeview/satellite/cable are doing.

This is what I am hoping for because it is more difficult to switch between England to your England Region on iplayer than it is on TV, and there is no easy way to see which you have currently selected (England or England Region).

I suspect many people have their iplayer region set to their local england region, and don't realise they are actually permantly watching iplayer in SD
