I think I'm right in saying that everything is HD now anyway. So when you watch a programme like South Today its actually gone through a double conversion - to HD out of the studio and back to SD into the encoder
Leeds studio look north looks rough even in SD so many scratches on the floor no wonder they have to darken it

No but my point was that whatever happens, if anything, the fact of whether a region is fully HD will probably be irrelevant. I'd have thought it would be all of them not just the 3 that are native HD. The rest of the schedule is HD

Yes, but I thought we were talking about the iplayer streams? I agree, and I'm sure too when the regional DTT and D-Sat feeds arrive some regions will indeed be upscaled for a while

I have always considered the Red Screen Of Death to be an utterly poor "solution" for BBC One HD.
I'd have preferred either a revival of UK Today, or for whatever's going out on the NC at the time (e.g. Sportsday etc) to be simulcast on BBC One HD and be structured to begin/end cleanly as per the regional news slots' timings.
It doesn't help that the lack of regions on BBC One HD has dragged-on for about 94 years.
At least the period in the late-1990s/early-2000s when DSat BBC One was initially unable to have regional splits was fairly short, so the UK Today solution was only needed for a couple of years or so.

If they do that it'll be a total damp squib for those who are excited about it happening.

The red screen of death is there to encourage viewers to switch to SD for their local news, putting alternative programming in its place would undermine that process.

BBC One English Regions are currently 540p, the nations are 720p.
Will Leeds be in HD or just upscaled?
