The Chase is clearly an important brand for ITV, and the 5pm slot, and by Challenge showing it far too often, to the point where it can get draining on viewers, people are soon gonna get sick to the back teeth of seeing it shown to death every hour of the day...which long term could affect ITV showing it as viewers start to turn it off due to fatigue of the programme.
You can have too much of a good thing, which could be toxic for the longevity for the show/brand. The last thing ITV want is for the show to start to burn out in the 5pm slot because another broadcaster is damaging the brand by showing it way too much. The Challenge repeats are watched by at most 100k viewers. New episodes of The Chase on ITV are still managing well in excess of 3m every weeknight and won't be even slightly affected by over-repeating on a niche digital channel.

The ironic thing with this is, Takeshi used to be the channel's go-to programming. Takeshi used to air wall to wall particularly on weekends. It was a cheap show to buy/cobble/reformat in the first place and boy did it pay off for them, it practically lived in their top 10 weekly programming and did so for many years later. Then Takeshi's Castle Rebooted came along and, ah well, less said about that the better. I suspect the Comedy Central reboot (albeit using a different country's version as its base and not the original show) is probably in charge now of that format.

Viewer Relations Fair play to them for pointing you in the directoin of where they are airing - they didn't really need to do that. Do ITV4 air it though - I've seen them air repeats of The Chase and occassionally Tipping Point but never Millionaire. Is it an indication perhaps the rights haven't gone to Great! TV through Sony but ITV have picked up the Challenge rights for ITV4. Surely must be soon reaching the point where the new version may be available for "syndication" too.

Considering ITV sell them the rights I doubt they have much more to say than "can you pay by BACS please". I suspect there is a clause not to air in the 5pm hour, though when ITV used to take it off air in the summer Challenge would often jump into that slot.
TBH I think the over exposure of a single programme does more damage to Challenge than it does to The Chase. I get though why they've essentially replaced Millionaire with it - the likes of Pointless, Deal or No Deal and The Weakest Link may be able to provide them with multiple episodes from a similar time frame but I don't think they quite have the classic play along factor as both Millionaire and The Chase do.
P.S. Thinking about high volume quiz shows of recent years at 31 episodes a year each (I think) over multiple years have any of the three "Quizzy Monday" shows from BBC2 ever got an airing beyond their original slot. I think BBC4 may have repeated one or all three of Only Connect, University Challenge and Mastermind very briefly, but I've never known them to have a consistent home for reruns.

In fact there's one airing at 7pm tomorrow on ITV4. It seems if you want the Clarkson ones you go to ITV4 (although they probably don't have it in the slot permanently repeating the series like Challenge did), and the Tarrant ones you go to Great.

It could be argued that the presence of the iPlayer sort of diminishes the need for repeats on the BBC, as you can get it when you want. The most recent series of Mastermind is on the iPlayer for another 8 months or so, Only Connect's aired episodes are all 11 months so by the time that's aired it'll be six months and then the next series, and UC for some reason only seems to have the old-school 30 day window on a per episode basis .
Challenge don't have this, or if they do they don't make any major use of it, so I suppose it benefits them more to keep airing the damn thing as opposed to wave "Chase on Demand" at the viewers.
I can see Challenge renaming to The Chase TV before long and then taken over by ITV because ITV own The Chase format and broadcaster commissions the programme.

UC for some reason only seems to have the old-school 30 day window on a per episode basis It was Dave that rerun Only Connect for a short while and UC is most likely because of existing right issues with the format.
OC has been occasionally repeated on Dave, normally in a post midnight slot, and thinking about it now, I think it was often the last programme before Teleshopping or whatever came in.
Has A Question of Sport ever been on Challenge? Vaguely remember some John/Ally era episodes being repeated on Dave mid-morning at some point

Don't believe so, though I suspect it may cost to clear. May have been cheaper for Dave since the whole UKTV thing is effectively the BBC in everything but name, but I dare say it would cost another channel a fortune to clear.

Would it be a complete and utter waste of time to start a petition on Change.org or Care2 calling on Sky/Comcast to either close Challenge or sell it to a company that might give it a bit more TLC (i.e. less Chase and more Crystal Maze, Blockbusters, Krypton Factor, Fifteen-to-One, Bob's Full House etc etc)?

The problem with Pobol y Cwm is that it's in Welsh and not broadcast in the rest of the UK - so it's not as popular as it's fans like to think. Unless they start making it twice, like they do with Keeping Faith (aka Un Bore Mercher), with the second version being in English (as People of the Valley) that's never going to change. Also, if they add that to the Soap Awards, they should add Scotland's River City as well.
