ITV isn't properly regionalized on Freeview as they didn't want to pay for the infrastructure required alone - I assume a deal will be needed between them and the BBC to pay for that. It does mean at the moment ITV is fully regionalized in HD on satellite (apart from Channel and a Border sub-region), but only has four regions in HD on Freeview in England.
Satellite is largely a question of paying for the additional transponder space - ITV did it in part by gradually reducing the SD versions they broadcast, but more space will be needed - both Sky Q and current Freesat boxes have access to the full iPlayer if it appears first on there, but that doesn't get you on the EPG.

Once you get over the age of 70, you really do go into a 'if it works, it stays' mindset. I'm certainly not 70, but my first widescreen TV was a silver 32" model. When I swapped to a flatscreen 42" HD TV in 2011 I was concerned what to do with it. I put it in my bedroom, and I still don't know how I got it up the stairs without breaking my back as it was so heavy. :o
I replaced the living room HD flatscreen with a 4K one a few years ago, and moved the old HD one from the spare room.
I had to get a friend to help me carry the old CRT down the stairs so the council could collect it from outside. He got the dusty side of the TV and I couldn't stop laughing as we were going down the stairs.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but after they appeared and then disappeared, the BBC's Schedules page is once again showing all the HD regions with an alleged date of 21 October...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules
This would seem to rule out a mistake, or something being published too early. The site also lists HD versions of BBC Parliament and Alba for the same date.
I wonder if they might launch HD streams of the regions on iPlayer, significantly sooner than Freeview/satellite/cable? That might at least allow a 'press red' prompt on connected devices.

Bear in mind that all BBC website doesn't show schedules for their programmes on that day until at least 2 to 3 weeks before broadcast.

My first widescreen TV is in my shed, and it has been ever since it stopped working 15 years ago!!!
Part of me did wonder whether the announcement last week of the renewed BBC - Sky partnership could have included some collaboration on getting all regions in HD on Sky. It’s not explicit but there is mention of live television.

The first widescreen set I got was a 32" Beko CRT set which lasted longer than expected until my first flatscreen which was a LG 32" in 2014.

Mine still worked, but I just didn't need 3 TVs.

I read recently that BBC Alba & BBC Parliament are going to have a new HD stream on iPlayer which maybe launched from the 21st of October. That could mean that new HD versions of these channels could be appearing on other platforms alongside the launches of BBC One HD regions in England in the future. But I don't know the date of when that is going to happen yet particularly for Sky/Freesat users.

Admittedly on a tangent, my first TV was a 15 inch one that was on a moveable stand in the corner of my room. Used to watch TOTP Saturday on it during the weekends. And when I was a little boy I wrecked our Living Room TV with a Magnet. Big CRT TV just killed by 5 YO me. Mum and Dad were not happy with me.
But back on topic, the HD-ification of BBC One and Two is sorely needed.

Something has changed at Southampton. They've had Sony HSC-300 HD studio cameras for some years now, but running in SD. In recent days their studio pictures have looked a lot better, so perhaps they are now running in HD, and downscaling Although if so then all the video system will have been switched over, and I'd have thought there'd have been a decamp to Oxford for a weekend to facilitate that ?
