The words 'Power Drector' in the corner of the June Brown package would suggest that their facilities are a bit basic

Cost? It's a third party studio, not 'in house'?

Technically so is ITV Leeds!

I think that was burned into a clip they nicked off YouTube rather than what the package was made in?

If feels very amateurish on 5News tonight, however thankfully not a whiff of the 5Phone nonsense which is a big positive!!!

Surprised 5 haven't just gone for a 30 minute bulletin tonight given all the technical problems. I'm sure ofcom would let them off with just doing a shorter programme with all things considered.
"From today you'll hear some new voices when you're watching UTV, as for the time being we're handing over to our colleagues at ITV, but rest assured Julian and I will be back with you as soon as possible"

There's some awful filler as I watch where they're padding around the death of June Brown. They can't even show clips of old EastEnders while they continue to chat.

The fact they’re on air at all is quite remarkable. This has been a major, major power and systems problem.

I'll put my hands up to not regularly watching 5 News, but would I be right to assume that this a lot heavier on studio interviews with reporters than would normally be the case?

Credit must be given to 5 News for getting on air. However, it does feel like there should have been more plans in place for a situation where normal facilities are out of action. The studio looks alright given the makeshift nature, but there seems to have been a lot of inconsistency in the approach to reports. I assume there will likely be some reassessment of plans for any kind of future situation.

Looks like Calendar are in the usual studio tonight.

Obviously though Leeds is the back up plan so I suspect they've run through the eventuality before so it's quite seamless tonight.

Up until a few years ago Leeds had two live programmes with dedicated studios and galleries going out simultaneously. An acquaintance used to work there and said that if something happened in a neighbouring region that rendered their studio out of action disaster recovery protocols were a Pan region bulletin for Yorkshire with the other studio being used by the region without a working studio.

I know a lot has changed since then but it is possible Leeds May have a second set with its own gallery for such a situation where another region needs to rock up to Leeds because they can’t broadcast from their own studios.
That was over 10 years ago, according to Wikipedia 2009. They subsequently moved buildings in 2013

Obviously it remains to be seen what studio will be used for the Evening News, but perhaps the GMB studio should be considered as a backup for ITV News and vice versa. I understand that it's probably not that simple, but just a thought.

EDIT: I see this was mentioned on previous page, along with reasons why it wasn't feasible - apologies for missing this

Meridian has replaced ITV News London, this will make a change.

Yes, London is showing Meridian South, which is pre-recorded. (Meridian South East is the live edition this evening.)

I assume Meridian is the back up for ITV London in general and vice versa.

This was the C4 lunchtime news, a single locked off CSO shot - I'm guessing from Millbank?

Yes, it is. (Meridian South Coast variant)
