It seems they're showing an episode with Joe Wilkinson, Katherine Ryan and "Sean Bean" from 2018. I thought they'd go for the one with Claudia Winkleman considering that single episode delivered so much - Rectum of the Year, Challenging Wank, Seal Clubbing and Carrot in a Box - The Rematch. However perhaps as all those clips have been widely shared a less obvious choice might stand out more.

I’m not sure if it’s always been the case, but every episode of Cats Does Countdown from 2013 is available to watch on All4, they do have these episodes listed as a tribute to Sean Lock.

I think it was a down and up to a wide shot they were using as a break bumper with added graphic. Didn't work particularly well. Nor did the down and up to the tribute slide that was spliced in before the credits of both the gig and Catsdown rather than being added by pres afterwards per convention.

It was also a strange episode of Catsdown to show as a tribute, I was expecting one where Sean stole the show like the tiger who went down the pub, carrot in a box etc. Or at least one where his team won. It just seemed to be any old random episode like they'd schedule on any night with an hour to fill.

Grateful that they did something, however.

It just felt like the next episode due to repeat - was nothing noteworthy from Sean or indeed anyone in that episode, and as you say he didn't even win. When three or four of the most widely shared moments actually all came from one episode that really should have picked itself. This one only worked as a tribute to Paul Young really.


P.S. Looking at the episode guide and how so many people seem to reference Sean missing loads of episodes as an indication he was ill, but actually since the mid-2018 series he only missed three compared to eleven for Jon. He missed quite a few in 2016/17, but that was when he was touring with the show that aired last night.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen 15 Storeys High and I’ve managed to get to the end of the first series, it’s very funny. But there’s something very noticeable with Episode 6 is that it has a laughter track and where as the rest of the episodes from the first series don’t. Was this the case first time round or on DVD?

It doesn't have a laugh track on the DVD and I'm 99% sure it never did on broadcast.

Also the DVD version of episode 6 runs about 20 seconds longer because the iPlayer version is missing the usual title sequence, instead having the title and opening credits over the beginning of the first scene. It must be an earlier edit.

According to wiki, the original radio show had a laugh track, so maybe there was an intention to have one during production, before the idea was dropped after they'd actually recorded them.

I might be wrong, but I'm sure I remember reading that the third series of The League of Gentleman was screened to an audience for a laugh track, but it was decided not to use it.

Indeed the last episode doesn’t have the opening titles at all. But I did note the episode is copyrighted 2001 and the rest are copyrighted 2002, which makes it even stranger unless that was a pilot episode?

The earlier copyright date points to it being an unbroadcast pilot, that was later re-edited to be broadcast as part of the series.

Worth remembering that the show started out on radio recorded in front of an audience, so it's not as unusual as it would seem, but evidently they decided to drop it when commissioned for a full TV series.
