The National Lottery (at least the Lotto draw) is now announced in the ad break of ITV on Saturday nights. It obviously was a staple of the BBC Saturday night line-up since launch, before that.

Thats a very tenuous link when actually it ceased to be a programme at all and now exists as paid for advertising. It's not even the draw, just the numbers.

Sorry. I considered giving it a mention as the Lottery was so heavily associated with the BBC since inception, it might feel odd to some people to now see it popping up on ITV - I know it does to me.

I think we'll see a few more shows which have to basically become advertiser funded to get back on air - Changing Rooms is one of them, set to return to C4 after a couple of decades or so off air and it is all being funded by Dulux. To be honest I'm surprised we haven't seen The National Lottery and ITV go down the route of a programme funded solely by the lottery airing on Saturday nights.

I remember a gameshow on ITV where contestants were offered a set amount of money or thousands of tickets for that night's National Lottery draw, which did seem odd to me because the NL was a BBC thing.

I forgot all about that until you mentioned it, looking at UK Gameshows it was The Big Call with Dr Fox in the summer of 2005 as a summer replacement for Millionaire. Very little exists about it on YouTube.

You missed out ITV (which aired the first 17 seasons a year or so after Sky One/Fox Kids/Jetix) and Channel 5 (which aired the next 3 - I think the last of those, Megaforce, was exclusively, as Nick dropped the show), as well as Kix (the channel now called Pop Max, which aired reruns, even before Pop took over airing of new episodes).

Also, the majority of the Sky One Undun shows as well as the Marvel Action Hour moved to Fox Kids when it launched in 1996.

Many comedy programmes started on BBC Radio before moving to TV, notably Hancock’s Half Hour, Dead Ringers and Little Britain, but many similarities exist between shows like The News Quiz and Have I Got News for You.

Big Brother from Channel 4 to Channel 5 is an obvious one.

Might be an obvious one indeed but does anyone remember when Big Brother appeared on the BBC briefly for the first series of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ for Comic Relief.

I seem to recall the main programme been on channel 4 as usual but 10 minute shorter versions (updates) for BBC viewers.

I think they also ran an hour long programme about Big Brother for BBC viewers to familiarise themselves to the format in case they were new to it.

I would argue "moving channel for an appearance in a charity telethon" doesn't count as "moving channel" as per the other examples in the thread. That's just a one off, most high profile programmes now do that. They never used to.

I agree and get that it’s not ‘moving channel’ as this thread is discussing, I was merely bringing it up out of interest.

This was different however as it wasn’t a one-off within the comic relief telethon, the programme featured daily on BBC and channel 4 for the week duration.

They even put the ‘BBC’ blocks in the opening title sequence too which was interesting considering it was a channel 4 programme.

It’s not often you see a programme appear via two different broadcasters at the same time.

Yes, really odd considering that virtually the same programme would be on channel 4 on the same night minus the BBC logo.
