TV Shows that Moved Channel - Blubatt - 11-07-2021
Back on TV Forum, one of the users made a thread discussing TV Shows that have moved from one channel to another. I think that this is a really interesting topic, and one that TVLF users might want to share their input on. So, with that, can you think of TV shows that were previously on one channel, before being recommissioned/moved to another channel. Programming like The Great British Bake Off, Robot Wars, Mastermind, Neighbours, where they moved without skipping (too much of) a beat.
Reboots don't count, by the way. Some shows continue an old storyline, but most of them just retell the original story, or just take place in that universe.

Well the obvious example here is This Is Your Life, which went from the BBC to ITV, and back to the BBC again and then had a one off special in 2007 on ITV.
Of course there was a gap between (I think) 1964 and 1969 between networks, but after that it was on the air until it was dropped in 2003, although it could be argued that Eamonn Andrews hosted the original show and the later ITV version (until he died in the 1980s and Michael Aspel took over until it ended), though of course it only ended in the 1960s because Andrews left for an ITV company, I think it was ABC, as Thames picked it up not long after they started.

You could make the argument that Through The Keyhole from the viewer perspective was on the same channel (it of course started as insert in TV-am in 1983 but wasn't spun off into its own show until 1987, which effectively makes it a reboot). It did move networks, granted (TV-am -> ITV -> Sky -> BBC -> ITV).
Blockbusters is more complicated. Started on ITV, moved to Sky (that can be treated as a continuation effectively as it looked by and large the same as the ITV version), then there was the reboots in 1997 (BBC), 2000 (Sky), 2012 (Sky via Challenge) and 2019 (Comedy Central).

Seems to work, does it not? Does it get any more natural than that point? It would be ridiculous to say stop everything when you're feet up in the air in a helicopter.

Indeed I was thinking more from 87 when it then did the move to sky and then BBC where if I recall was on both BBC1 and 2.
Yes the Michael Aspel version of Blockbusters in 97 let’s not even count!

University Challenge was originally a Granada programme for ITV, then switched to the BBC. What the Papers Say was originally a Granada programme in 1956, moving to Channel 4 and then BBC 2. It finally moved to Radio 4 until its demise in 2016.
Neighbours, as well as moving networks in the UK, also switched networks in Australia having been axed by Seven, it was immediately bought by Network 10.
Many comedy programmes started on BBC Radio before moving to TV, notably Hancock’s Half Hour, Dead Ringers and Little Britain, but many similarities exist between shows like The News Quiz and Have I Got News for You.

Already mentioned but Don't Tell The Bride is an interesting one as in a space of two years new episodes rapidly pinballed from BBC Three to BBC One (then back to Three for some episodes) then to Sky One and finally to E4.
