BBC Sounds app have just sent out a “Breaking News: Boris Johnson to resign” notification.

Takes you to 5 Live when you click on it.

Shouldn’t the notification have expanded on that? “Hear the latest on 5 Live” etc. it’s not an app I have notification on to get breaking news?

I'm guessing each radio station did their own thing with this this morning rather than a Prince Phillip style combined effort to break the news at least.

On Radio 1 it was just covered in Newsbeat’s regular bulletins, it’s hardly a Prince Phillip situation.

Well yes, that sort of thing is something done for a very specific event, and what happened this morning was definately not that event.

As Chris Mason was tied up with TV and radio today, Laura K was providing analysis over the phone on a Newscast special with Adam Fleming early this afternoon.

She hinted that she was rushing to London for 'editorial reasons' (possibly a special programme in the coming days?).

Are World News taking the Six?

Ahhhh it's one of those days again where world viewers are treated with a very special rare edition of the "BBC World News at Six"... 

The titles just don't make sense with the WN DOG... I'd rather just use the generic "number-less" titles and refer to the entire newscast as "BBC News" to avoid confusing World viewers... Just like how they did many years ago during BBC strikes~ I'm kinda sad that they no longer pay special attention to minor fascinating details like these ever since they started cutting costs and resources...

The BBC Six is usually the most watched bulletin of the day in the UK, the BBC’s home country. To suggest they’re not going to use their flagship brand is just never going to happen. I’m sure the world understands they’re watching a programme on at 6pm in the UK.

Exactly. It's no worse than seeing the presenter led bulletins of US networks especially anchored by other people.

As a World viewer, I can confirm I am not confused, upset, angered or baffled by a number 6, hidden in a globe graphic btw, appearing for 2 seconds during the opening.

I don't think ditching the number 6 will make them "lose their flagship brand"... For example, a few days ago they used the generic branding for their Six when the Six was delayed till 6:15PM... The newscast format is still retained and still feels "flagship". I just think it'd be more neat if they do exactly like the video below when they plan to simulcast their national bulletin to the World (jump to 16:19 for the titles):


It's just a little pet peeve of mine, I think WN should avoid any time references/checks... In fact, they used to pay attention to minor details like these with high level of consistency a few years ago (e.g the presenter says "The headlines at the top of the hour" rather then "The headlines at XXX AM/PM" during simulcasts; using generic titles when the Five/Newsroom Live/Afternoon Live is being simulcast). 

And yes, I know it's not a big deal to us TV geeks because we all watch the News Channel and World News side by side all the time and we know what's going on~ I'm just stating that I missed the old times where they paid attention to consistency and fascinating minor details like these and it seems they stopped caring in recent years...
