This is something very intresting.

So BBC had a graphic on Grandstand which is shown for updates on the football. This is very intresting as I never heard or seen Grandstand ever do something like this.

Test Card F one one of those screens- the electronic, captionless version, which would have only come in to use a matter of weeks before this episode was filmed.

That BBC Three ident (seen at 2:19) was quite nice considering it was only used for a couple of months. Shame the presentation around it was poor.

An “unofficial” tour of Nine Sydney’s abandoned Willoughby studios prior to demolition earlier this year. Surprising the stuff that gets left behind! Reminiscent of similar videos that surfaced of ATV Centre/Central House.

A very funny promo for BBC foreign sales using the EastEnders cast (I don’t know why we don’t have more of these nowadays now the licence fee is getting more and more scrutiny.)

Followed by what looks to be part of an Olympics promo being used as an ident instead.

YouTube wants me to verify my age to watch that video by giving them either credit card details or sending them an ID... that's not going to happen.

Not sure if you would qualify this as "Gold", but I love it. Take 30 minutes to sit back and enjoy a preview of what NBC has to offer in primetime for the 1998/99 TV season. Includes previews for Friends and a number of Friends rip-offs that are all set in New York City. Plus, a sneak-peek of a brand new sitcom called Will & Grace - I wonder if that will be renewed past the first season?

Other highlights include Encore! Encore!, a sitcom about a washed-up opera clown - can't wait to see that!

So grab a bag of Doritos and a glass of Sunny D, and plan out your VCR recording schedule for Fall 1998.

No issues here - but I don’t get YouTube and restricted content. I can’t even view the comments on one of my own videos because YouTube deems the video to be adults only, or something. Their algorithm leaves a lot to be desired.

TV Eye from 1979 - What’s on the satellite tonight?

Quite an interesting film looking at the possibility of satellite broadcasting and the threats from the continent and channels coming in from France and Germany. The funny thing is Ted Turner seemed to get it right on what Pay TV would probably end up like in the UK. As well note RTL/Radio Luxembourg’s ambitions for France and Germany.

An interesting clip of GMTV in 1999. Firstly talking about doubts over the Police investigation of the Jill Dando murder - which nearly 22 years on have seemingly been proven true with it still unsolved.
Secondly - a very typical item from the nineties of a newfangled thing called ‘The Internet’. Things to note include how busy the Cyber Café is for ten to seven in the morning. And John Stapleton designing his own website and inviting you to take a look at it, which crazily enough in 2021 is still online, still very basic and has since been updated but only up until 2012. Take a look: www.john-stapleton.co.uk

A slightly unusual Granada closedown from 1985 here. The sign off is no different than normal, however after a period of the Granada NCR colour test bars and tone, we switch to the blue Independent Television caption apologising for the break in programmes (skip to 12:45), despite closing down. An error at Granada’s end or something not right down the line towards Winter Hill?
