ITV Hub

Genuine question:

Why is it that the Love Island audience need to view it via streaming and not the linear ITV2 feed?

Two theories:
  • Teenage kids no longer have their own TV set in their bedroom like my generation did (with DTT generally not working well with portable antennae) and therefore rely on their tablets to consume television.
Same with students, where analogue reception in halls could be absolutely lousy so DTT is definitely a non-starter.
  • They're that into streaming it doesn't occur to them to fire up Channel 6.

Although of course, if you are going out of your way to watch Love Island, I'm sorry for you. Tongue

Seriously, the ITV hub hasn’t changed (apart from the name) since around 2013 when I first used it. In this era it really is bad form to have something like this when the BBC and, to an extent, C4 both seem to have much more intuitive and usable streaming services.

I believe it uses, or at least used to use, some of the original I player technologies which the BBC created way back when.

I'd change to the ITV Hub+ Amazon Channel which has everything in 1080p, but the continuing problem of poor navigation continues which ITV don't seem to want to rectify.

However Britbox, presumably also added to Amazon by ITV has no such issues with their Amazon channel is fine.

Add a third theory, they have a TV set but want to avoid paying TV Licence so stream linear channels through their respective BVOD app. Seen this with a lot of friends.

Although if you're streaming linear channels you should in theory have a licence.

Don't normally watch ITV Hub but my partner is watching Corrie on it via a Chromecast and I'm noticing it show shows the filename of the advert before each of the adverts shown, any idea why? Does it always do this?

Amazon Prime's navigation is poor in general - it's a nightmare to find anything

This article says that ITV Hub and All4 went down for a while yesterday. I'm surprised nobody posted about it.

Nobody who uses ITV Hub probably noticed a difference.

I was forced to use the Hub smart TV app to catch up on the Les Dawson documentary this week, only to find the sound disappeared around ten minutes in. Is this sort of thing commonplace?

ITV's live streams on the Hub have moved to Amazon Web Services instead of using 15 on-site encoders.

I think ITV already used AWS for their Amazon Channel ITV Hub+ which is already 1080p for all their live streams.

How long has ITV Hub had a "watch from the start" option for the live feed?

Only quite recently, first noticed it on the app last month, but wasn't available on desktop at the time, whilst it's a nice addition, it's not proper timeline scrubbing.

Yeah, i noticed that, and it also doesn't appear to be available for the news (I imagine likely true for any live programme, but will need to test it).
