Not really, No. Obviously the show has changed over the years to accommodate the social and political changes in the world going as far back as Pertwee's era. and that is to be lauded but the Timeless Child effectively ripped the heart out of the show.

Of course you're totally entitled to that view, but IMO, the Timeless Child did no such thing - it added to the mythos of the show, it didn't really change any of it. Everything we'd seen up to that point still 'happened' - there was just a lot more (pre-history, if you like) that we didn't know about. I think it actually added to the mystery, really.

Of course you're totally entitled to that view, but IMO, the Timeless Child did no such thing - it added to the mythos of the show, it didn't really change any of it. You make a very valid point about the pre-history but I just felt it corrupted the narrative.

I agree with the consensus that to return to a male doctor after Jodie would be a misfire. Obviously Jo Martin as the next Doctor would be the natural move but I also feel that Olivia Colman or Nicola Walker would also be great choices.

People forget one BIG thing when they speak about possible actors becoming the next doctor, SALARY.

People like Olivia Coleman earns a fortune now, and her agent would command a fee which the BBC would be unwilling to pay for her to become the next doctor.

The names of celebrities I have seen put about, as the possible next doctor makes me laugh, as there is not a chance in hell the BBC could afford them.

Peter Capaldi was paid no more than £250,000 a year for his time as the doctor. Can you imagine the amount Olivia Coleman's agent would want for her to become the doctor?

One wonders if the show will even be continued once the current doctor leaves. It has become a bit of a mess. Just as it did the last time it was ended, but in very different ways. Maybe it is time for another break.

Highly disagree about Olivia Colman, even if she was viable financially. A brilliant actor does not necessarily equal a brilliant Doctor, and I just can’t see her being successful in the role.

My pick even since before Jodie was revealed has been Alexander Vlahos. He was brilliant in Versailles and would hark back to David Tennant and Matt Smith’s incarnations nicely, because - let’s face it - they were the most successful of the modern age. He’s young, quirky, has quite ethereal/gender-neutral features, he's a massive fan of the show, and he's Welsh - so there’s the one box ticked that hasn’t been before

He was brilliant in Versailles and would hark back to David Tennant and Matt Smith’s incarnations nicely, because - let’s face it - they were the most successful of the modern age. He’s young, quirky, has quite ethereal/gender-neutral features, he's a massive fan of the show, and he's Welsh - so there’s the one box ticked that hasn’t been before

Alexander is a good shout - I've rated him since he was in The Indian Doctor.

I'd add Luke Newberry to the list.

Didn't he play older Mordred in Merlin?

I think they'll probably for either another female Doctor or a non white male Doctor. Alfred Enoch would be a good choice although he is a bit young.

Regarding the certainty that the next Doctor will be a woman, does that Twitter have any actual insider knowledge? Or is it just making assumptions?

I think it's just an assumption - but FWIW, I think I agree. To go straight back to a male, after one female incarnation, would make Jodie's era look tokenistic, or possibly even give the impression of a failure. I'd say they're more likely to go for another woman, before looking at both male and female actors for the next Doctors after that (if the show continues for that long).

What about just choosing the best actor for the role. Whatever their gender/sexuality/race/hair colour.

As a self-confessed "classic whovian" I am seriously disappointed with the show. Now I want to make clear that this isn't a slur against anyone but against the show in particular. It's lost its way. It's basically **** on its history and its fans by the ludicrous "timeless child".

I think whats needed is get the regeneration out of the way and take the show off the air for a couple of years.

There could be a possibility that your no longer the target audience and you have changed alto the point where Dr who no longer works for you.

People change and tastes change. I've not seen anyi of this incarnation yet as I wanted to go back and re watch all the new who. Some I loved first time round but less this time and 9ther episodes vice versa.

The most intriguing part of this, is the blockbuster special next year for the BBC's 100th anniversary, this makes me wonder what they will have in store for the 60th anniversary in 2023
