I'm A Celeb 2021

Absolutely the right call and a second series on location in Wales should iron out any issues they may not have got right first time. There are basically only three or four variations of the trials anyway which have been repeated numerous times down under, however they're dressed up. Like Flux for me the new location made a long running series worth watching again (aside Holly co-hosting) and they did a great job last year. Just a shame they didn't update the titles considering how good the surrounding presentation was.

The right call though given half of Australia is in lockdown now - and in many cases a proper lockdown with a halt on construction, sport and non-essential production. There is also increasing unease with celebs being flown in for jobs, especially reality shows, whilst families still can't - and the excuse they're above the quota makes no difference as if they can raise the quota for celebs they could for regular citizens too.

To be fair the celebs technically would be travelling for work, unlike families who are going for a holiday. But considering the situation in Australia I agree that it is the right decision to put it in Wales. I just hope that they make the trials a bit harder and more exciting. The one thing I miss about Australia is all of the sunlight, it always felt so uplifting in November/December. I’m not sure Wales has the same effect.

I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Here! to return to Wales in 2021

Quote:I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! is to be filmed in Wales for the second successive series, ITV have confirmed.

The reality TV show, hosted by Ant and Dec, is normally held in the Australian jungle but returns to Gwrych Castle in north Wales due to Covid restrictions.

Technically they would, but please don't bulk all non-work travel in the "Holiday" bracket. I apologise for going off topic here, but throughout the pandemic, there's been a big lack of understanding that there are other reasons for travel - most importantly families, partners, children who have been unable to see their loved ones and for whom there have been no exemptions even when exceptions were made for work reasons. I myself was separated from my partner for months on end due to extreme border restrictions. And whilst most people in our situation accepted that's what they needed to do, it's nonetheless been incredibly frustrating seeing the media in general push the "holiday" angle on travel - "Holidays cancelled!", "We will get our Summer Holidays back" when there are much more important reasons for opening travel to some people.

The unease Brekkie mentions at the likes of Katie Hopkins being whisked off to Australia to "work" on Big Brother, or Nigel Farage getting flown in to Trump's rallies in the USA when the countries remain closed to 'normal' folk who are aching to be reunited with their loved ones is real, and it's justified.

Do they have to film the trials at night. Could they not switch to filming them at say 10 am or would that be too difficult to edit ready for 9pm. Even some of the days so they could have outdoor ones ?

I guess the issue is if you have the trial on the same day of airing, the stars you win will be for that nights dinner which would leave very little time to make the edit, just a few hours really.

I guess they don't want to bring Ant & Dec out again early the following day and the crew are already there for the main show so they shoot the trial straight after.

There is obviously more to it logistically than we might think. But they basically keep the same recording pattern as Australia but with dinner for the celebs pretty much straight after the trial into the early hours of the morning.

YAY! I preferred Wales personally.

Although I would hate to live in the jungle because of my loathing of flying insects and I take my hat off to those celebs and production staff who put up with it, Wales is an amazing, beautiful country which I am very fond of and being in the same time zone made it feel more seasonal to me.

It's a shame. I wonder if they looked into the South African site that the Australian version uses. Though I suppose things could change again later in the year so it was too risky signing up for anything other than the Welsh version.

As I said at the time I think they made the most entertaining series they could in the circumstances but it wasn't a classic series and I do think the unavoidably dark, damp setting played a part in that.

As for tasks hopefully with looser restrictions this time round they'll have a bit more flexibility to have larger scale games away from the main site, it felt like they were smaller scale because they had less space to play with.

I assume the reason South Africa wasn't considered aside from travel restrictions is because it's only two hours ahead of the UK in November so you would have the same hurdles as filming in Wales.

I also think Wales is a known quantity now. If they have to go for a Plan B quite late in planning, better to stick with something they know, and of course a Plan B that's not also dependent on travel restrictions and quarantine rules which could change at a moment's notice.

The covid situation is far worse in South Africa too and their lockdowns have been amongst the strictest in the world.

I wonder if they’ll update any of the branding this year to reflect the Welsh castle environment, or if it’ll be the same Aussie inspired theme and titles with the castle added at the end as last year.

It was such a lazy title sequence last year considering the titles are long overdue an update anyway (they've been in use since 2008). The stings were all updated and it wouldn't have taken much to have the celeb shots appear to be within parts of the castle rather than in the lettering. That said suspect if they're to consider an updated sequence after all these years it's more likely going to happen when they return to Australia.

Will be interesting to see if they reinstate the proper Saturday show too.

Remember last year there were two issues - not being able to travel to Australia, and also being Covid safe in the UK production which was the explained reason why there was no Saturday show, and a slightly shorter series

Only the former applies this time, so they will probably be able to do a normal production

Plus it went down so badly, even Ant & Dec made a joke about it
