A full size unit will have a beam-splitter whilst the “small LCD” one on the Dolphin Arm won’t, which is not so good for eyeline as the presenter will be looking slightly above or below the lens depending on how it is mounted.

If they get matching sofas throughout and maybe fix some glass type material so we can see the office but not hear the background noise that would be much better than the current studio.

I rather think you've hit the nail on the head here... it's an office space. It's actually quite hard getting to the desks behind with that plonked there.

I've long been a fan of including real newsrooms in output - I think it just looks so much more appealing than a fake background - but you do also need to have a space for actual work to take place.

Upshot: I really do hope we see a change in the studio configuration at Salford...

I do feel that a change in studio configurations at Salford will be coming, firstly as the Breakfast/NWT set is now approaching the point of having been onscreen for a decade - and it looked tired on its first day - and surely someone will have been forward planning for what they'll do when the studio eventually needs a new set. As Quay House this isn't TLS or TVC, there aren't any easy, spare, close-by studios in the same building.

Second, with Morning Live being moved up north in the new year, they are going to need a studio. I doubt they'll be sharing with either BBC Sport or Breakfast/NWT; so the BBC are going to have to find somewhere for them to go - whether it be a new converted office studio in one of the BBC buildings, or in one of the Dock10 studio.

Ohh what’s a beam splitter...? Never heard of that before.

It will be interesting to see what impact, if any, Bill Turnbull's guest stint on Good Morning Britain will have this week on viewing figures. BBC Breakfast has been maintaining its traditional lead (worth bearing in mind that the only day Good Morning Britain has beaten Breakfast was the day Piers Morgan flounced off the set on what was to be his final day, and then only by 40k viewers), and Turnbull's guest stint last year had little impact on Good Morning Britain's viewing figures. However, given the fall-out from Diana, and the BBC being scapegoated for everything, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of negative impact on BBC Breakfast (though on Friday, it was about 900k in front of Good Morning Britain).

Would an average viewer really turn off their favorite breakfast show because of a damaging report? It's an interesting question but I don't think it works that way. There might be an impact on the BBC brand and that in turn might impact Breakfast. But that would be a long term trend, that is hard to see at first.

A beam splitter acts as a mirror for the teleprompter unit, whilst also letting light through to the lens. Almost every time you see someone reading a teleprompter you are actually viewing it through a 70/30 or 60/40 (amount of light which is reflected and transmitted through) beam splitter.

It's more than unlikely that it was actually an influence, but one might jokingly suggest somebody has been perusing my BBC Breakfast mock from TVF (https://tvforum.uk/forums/post1301581#post-1301581). The views of Quay House, the prop BBC logo over the shoulder, a few home furnishings to make it feel more living-roomy, uplit columns...

Anyone else think that BBC Breakfast should take the BBC News DOG and flipper?

Just flicked between the “new look” Sky News and BBC One and it’s very noticeable that there’s nothing but the clock on BBC Breakfast.

A flipper/ticker is a useful thing at that busy time of the morning, and surely branding is getting even more important now that GB News is launching.

What I do think would be a good idea, and I've seen it in the USA, is a regional news ticker running over the whole of BBC Breakfast, notably travel news (yes, I know it's less of a 'thing' in this new world, but hey)

As the regional Tx/opting becomes centralised as part of the overall BBC 1 Regional HD provision, it might be nice to provide that facility (Although it would cost money)

Not really, they’ve all had that for ages?
