News Coverage War in Ukraine
The power supply in Kyiv is reportingly been cut out. Hope the broadcasters can have enough in reserve!

EDIT: Reports vary so some are saying part of the city is up whilst power is done in others.

Sky News will have a twice daily show covering the the invasion from Monday at 1pm and 7pm.
Ros Atkins anchoring on a Friday night. I wonder if the BBC will bring in the big guns to anchor from the studio over the weekend?

But surely they have a show every hour of the day covering the invasion. Seems a bit premature now to announce plans for Monday too - a lot could happen between now and then.

Often think with stories such as this one point of difference the news channels could offer is an "other news" slot - half an hour or even just 15 minutes completely focused on anything but the story dominating the agenda.

BBC News Podcast launched a “Ukrainecast” podcast yesterday, but both days so far it has also been posted under the “Newscast” feed.

Obviously makes sense because it is the News, but I don’t understand why they haven’t rebranded Newscast (like they did at the start of the pandemic) instead of starting a new feed & duplicating it on the existing too.
Ukraine broadcasters relocating to bunkers.

Clive Myrie doing an excellent job the last couple of nights. I think he’s at his best when reporting and on location.

Under different circumstances it would have been nice to see the car park of News return.
ITV News will be on ITV/STV from 7-9.30am tomorrow and Sunday morning.

And weirdly, last night's Newscast podcast on the BBC Sounds app was the first episode of Ukrainecast, though with an brief introduction from Adam Fleming - however the TV podcast last night on BBC1 was a completely different episode, recorded/filmed yesterday in the studio by Laura K and James Landale reflecting on the day's events and what happens next
ITV's Saturday lunchtime bulletin is extended to 20 mins and the late bulletin to 30 mins.

Yes I noticed this also. Which I believe is the first time the TV version hasn’t made the podcast feed? Bit strange as it was all recorded like the podcast, like you said in the studio. But I ended up watching it via iPlayer instead earlier on, as it wasn’t on Sounds.

Not sure where Adam has gone, as he usually hosts them daily but they’ve gone with Victoria Derbyshire instead for Ukrainecast, so I can only presume they’re going to run them alongside each other? Instead of one replacing the other.
Jane Hill just said the BBC News at Ten were hoping to come from Kyiv tonight but can’t due to it being too dangerous.

There is always at least one broadcaster in situations like this for whom it turns out to be their defining moment and I suspect for Clive this may be career defining.
