I know the set-ups are quite different so you can't compare like for like, but what this outage has shown once again is how much better equipped technically the ITV regions are than the BBC equivalents. As has been mentioned already, I'm sure there is a disaster recovery plan in place that has specifically equipped Leeds to take on outputting the national bulletins, but as all of the regions have the same kit and studios it feels like it wouldn't have been especially difficult for any of the regions to provide the studio/facilities for the national team to broadcast their bulletins.

In contrast, the technical quality of the BBC regions varies wildly (although of course they'd turn to Millbank, Salford or the nations in a DR scenario).

In a parallel universe, I'm sure we're all reflecting on two days of the Look Levy studio being forced kicking and screaming into outputting BBC News at 10!

There's some irony with a national network that started life as separate companies, all with their own technical architecture and production methods, becoming what it is today, and dealing really well and very smootly (on air at least!) with yesterday's incident.

To be fair the Red Bee incident in September had an equally smooth back up provision for the BBC, (and far less so for C4!)

Must be really bad for it to still not be working properly. I wonder what the issue is?

It's possible not all the equipment has come back 'alive' and working correctly - servers and media storage can be damaged on instant shutdown. Every bit of kit will need to be testrun and checked.

I have been very impressed with how ITN have managed over the last 24 hours. Really great work, especially relocating their national news to Leeds! BBC News whenever they had power problems simply moved elsewhere in London.

Yes, though that was all 20 years ago. Things have moved on a lot with technology (and not just broadcast technology) so relocating elsewhere is much less of a faf

I wonder what would have happened to the economy if Covid had hit us in 2000, rather than 2020, or even as recently as 2010 ?

I think we should also credit Calendar for sharing their only studio putting out their programme plus ITV News. Despite planning for something like this it's never the same as when it actually happens...
