Holby City to end
Caught the end of one of the Simon Slater cooking shows the other day and that has graphics in the style we used to see back in the 70s-90s with credits appearing on things (a noticeboard I think amongst other things) in a filmed sequence.

Ultimately they just need to be able to squeeze the and chop about 1/4 or 1/3 of the frame for the BBC, but these don't look quite like they'd form to that and more so just seem a really bad layout and difficult to read with small text on a background which clashes.

The new end credits aren't just odd, they're awful. It's like they don't want anyone to be able to read them all - sends they eye all over the place. And the DVE move (if that's the right term, I can never remember) pushes the left hand side just out of frame and well out of safe area. Apparently "uis McGerry" is played by "ler Luke Cunningham".

Also seems a bit strange to change everything up on episode 11 of a series, even when you do run practically all year round.

The seasons have become less important since the show went all-year round. Apart from episode names (which are now Season xx Episode xx) there’s been no real change in season between 22 and 23.
<t>Goodbye TVF. Hello TVLF.</t>
I'm not at all a fan of the new theme or titles. The visuals just look as though they're a cheaply thrown together rehash of what we already had, and the music is way vague and doesn't even come close to Ken Freeman's original. They're awfully short as well. Do they believe people have that short of an attention span?

Holby have written out another character tonight.
The credits fit in the ECP tonight.

And Brookside! And Crossroads series 1 in 1987/8. Its almost like the kiss of death when a soap gets a revamp.

Guess you can understand why, if they know a show's struggling and a revamp is a last ditch measure to save it. Only they tend to end up ailienating the remaining viewers and doing the opposite. Happened plenty of times with shows across all genres.

Admittedly Brookside doesn't entirely fit into the same category as Holby and Family Affairs, the revamp happened a few months before the axe was announced. In fact they basically revamped twice in 2002, and you could argue again in 2003 when it went once-a-week post watershed. Crossroads definitely counts though, they were part way through a revamp into changing the name to "King's Oak" and making it about the village rather than the hotel, and they'd changed the titles and theme music and retitled the show to "Crossroads King's Oak", but the show was axed before the final step.

Though you can add The Bill into the same category as Brookside, a revamp which was completed but basically signed the show's death warrant, though the axe didn't come until a few months later.

Reading up on the history of revamps, it seems the strangest one was probably 77 Sunset Strip in the 60s, where they basically changed everything except the lead actor and the character's name- even the characterisation and backstory changed, so you basically had a completely new show that just happened to have a character with the same name and actor. Unsuprisingly it didn't complete that season, and those episodes went pretty much unseen for over 50 years.
I remember Family Affairs keeping I think a couple of regulars from the original before they were gradually written out, Duncan Hart being the only original Hart family member who didn't die in an explosion.
Family Affairs had several revamps but that was the biggest one, just 2 years into its almost 9 year run. I didn't really start to watch Family Affairs until after this revamp but im sure it was generally thought that it improved the show greatly getting rid of most of the Hart Family. Duncan Hart was later recast, played by Jonathan Wrather who was more well known for Corrie and Emmerdale later on.
I can't believe that I'm actually typing this, but this evening Rosie Marcel returned to Holby as Jac Naylor just 7 months after her 'exit', which Digital Spy and Metro are now referring to as a hiatus...so Holby have either had this planned all along, or a situation similar to Claire King's 1997 Emmerdale exit that wasn't, when the producers asked Claire to come back to ED just weeks after she'd left (when Kim faked her death the first time) .

What a shame the show is being axed next March now
Are there negotiations underway with another broadcaster - ITV for example? I'd be surprised if there wasn't.
When the news was first announced, my immediate thought was Channel 5 but there's been no news about anyone else taking the show on.

Nope, BBC Studios will be ceasing production in December.
So to sum up; according to BBC management the present thinking is whatever replaces it must come from outside the M25. BBC studios have no free production space outside the M25 so it will be costly to create one. The replacement will go out to tender and probably be made by a company other than BBC studios company. Elstree is set up for continuing drama which means its quite inexpensive to make comparatively. Any replacement would be non medical based due to Doctors & Casualty. The expectation is that it will be a police drama.
What a waste of talent, time and money in pursuit of political decisions.
