I appreciate the 'Today' programme and 'Breakfast' have huge audiences but it seems a little odd he's very rarely, if ever appeared in this particular role on the Network Bulletins or beyond the 10am hour.
If you go back to before Adam and Vicky’s current roles, Norman Smith did Today, Breakfast, News at One/WATO, AM news channel and (as it was then) Victoria Derbyshire. Vicky Young effectively held the same role but during afternoons and evenings (so appeared on slightly less prominent programmes), while John Pienaar appeared all over the place.
Although Adam is Chief Political Correspondent he’s effectively replaced Norman Smith, not Vicky Young. He just also presents a daily podcast (Newscast) that gets recorded every afternoon.
