I wonder if the lack of Newsround was the reason for the behind the scenes at CBBC filter?
No, Newsround definitely went out - it would look a bit rubbish for it not to be there on one of the biggest news days of its audience's lives, and regardless of what gallery they used, they could sort something out. It's more likely that whatever filler BBC2 showed before CBBC with the Westminster coverage over on BBC1 wasn't quite long enough so CBBC had a bit of time to kill.

He mentions while preparing for the 10pm question time that he was told that Panorama which had been added to the schedule that night was struggling to pull a programme together at short notice and instead the question team produced a live 60 minute special on Thatcher from the question set ( which was at the Barbican) before also producing the normal question time that night.
I mentioned this on the other forum, but as Peter Sissons mentions in his book, 1990/91 was the only series of Question Time that went out live, and it managed to coincide with some huge news stories on a Thursday, both that and the start of the Gulf War within three months. He says that everyone was very excited by it being live but then within a few weeks one episode had to go off air after ten minutes because of a bomb scare and another failed to make it on air completely because of a power cut, and that was the end of doing it live.
