BBC Radio pres: October 2021 onwards

I think this is the first time I have seen the new BBC blocks in physical form. Looks good!

As noted in the BBC Online thread, the new station logos have arrived to the BBC Sounds app and website.

One thing I've noticed is that 5X (and 4X and 1X) logos are used on BBC Sounds, despite elsewhere the X is absent from the circle (as below in the rugby league coming up bit)





And, I just know it is going to bug me every time I will 'tune in' to 5 Live online the LIVE is missing from this logo.

They also doing same for Radio 6 Music and particularly Asian Network, doesn't referred as such full name, but rather a short variant of that respective logos.



While tune in online version of the logo says BBC Radio 5, they are still legally named as BBC Radio 5 Live. It also particularly same for BBC Radio 6 Music as BBC Radio 6 for tune in online version of the logo, and BBC Radio A, which is the tune in version of the logo of BBC Asian Network that doesn't have "RADIO" tag.

Two 'new' stations have popped up on BBC Sounds in recent days: BBC Radio Scotland Extra and BBC Radio Wales Extra. Never seen these mentioned or reported about anywhere, but their addresses when you click on them says BBC Radio Scotland MW and BBC Radio Wales AM so that would strongly imply that theses alternative feeds are being made available easily online (BBC Radio Scotland MW has been availble on Sounds before but don't think the same is true for RBBC Radio Wales AM).

Now that I think about it.......a few months ago I discovered that local radio stations called BBC Radio Jersey Xtra and BBC Radio Guernsey Xtra suddendly popped out of nowhere, aftera little digging on fmscan.org I discovered that they were not news stations, but they simply are the MW signal of both stations

At last! Looks like it’s not quite live on the app yet. I think it’s  also the first time that Radio Orkney and Shetland have appeared on the Sounds app - the Radio Orkney Twitter feed points listeners to RadioPlayer to listen live and MixCloud (!) for catch-up. 

I wonder if they’ll start referring to the MW version as
Radio Scotland Extra on-air.

Yes, it's Radio 4 Long Wave. There are a couple of programmes a day that are only broadcast on LW as well as extra shipping forecasts and Test Match Special. On DAB the prigrammes appear as pop up services and TMS is on 5 Live Sports Extra 

However its been announced that the LW opt outs will stop in anticipation of the LW transmitters being closed completely. So presumably Radio 4 LW will disappear online and other places it appears such as satellite

They’ll probably keep it on Sounds for TMS, unless they have other plans for it.

TMS is primarily on 5 Live Sports Extra, they haven't promoted it as being on Long Wave for years. There'll be no need to have it on Sounds in two places

I think the first one I've seen from local radio to use it. Perhaps the Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland stations will change over before the English locals on the 11th July?

it almost looks like it uses the Scotland flag in that - the cross thing - anyone else see that or is it just me?
