That was my thought, much in the same way Nightscreen used to bounce about the regions in terms of its creator of record to get the locally made programming quota up.
The other, equally wild theory I guess is that the contract for airing the show might say it can't go on iPlayer until the episode has been aired on regular TV, so by having each show aired, albeit in different regions, you've satisfied the letter of the contract. Would be very strange if so though.
Not sure about the iPlayer theory - the series was shown on BBC Two network in April/May 2022

In that case, this seems particularly strange to go quite so wide with it all, unless you are torture testing something
I don't really see what the issue is here, really. The episode of DIY SOS being replaced was a repeat, and the same thing happened the last two weeks when a couple of different regions repeated relevant episodes of Tales From A Kitchen Garden in place of (repeats of) Would I Lie To You. It gets a bit more relevant programming about the region on primetime BBC1, and it's only replacing repeats, so I don't see why not.

I don't think anybody questioned it for airing in Yorkshire or Yorks & Lincs, or even other Northern regions, but coming down to West Midlands does not tick the regional box so it felt a bit random.

I noticed the episode of DIY SOS was a project in Scunthorpe, but of course didn't go out in Scunthorpe, at least on SD
I'm watching BBC One Yorkshire HD on Virgin. Leeds still soft opt and put up their cue dot to prove that they are in circuit during the end credits of the previous programme.
Why am I not seeing a loss of picture quality when Leeds and its SD infrastructure goes into circuit? Is upscaled SD indistinguishable from HD these days?

On BBC One HD Midlands, also on Virgin, you can see a slight drop in picture quality when The Mailbox goes into circuit. It's not massively noticeable, but just enough that the headlines are slightly fuzzy.

When I was watching the 6 and 10 last week to see the new look studio B I was initially underwhelmed by picture quality until I realised it was because the start and end were both in SD.

I can only see BBC South in SD at present, one thing noticeable last night when they soft opted at 22:29, was the audio dropped by about 10 dB !
They haven't finally upgraded Leeds, have they?

Maybe there's some sort of interim setup whereby it passes though in HD and the up convsersion happens in Leeds. Either that or its just a very good down/up conversion
