I know they're trying to have a laugh about it all, but it just makes BBC Breakfast feel amateurish, with poor technical back-up. It's a clock and they don't even have the infrastructure to get one on screen. It's meant to be a world-class broadcaster?

Despite all the technical failings GB News had, at least they had a working clock. At least we had some fun with clocks this morning.

This hot weather has reminded me of an ep of Breakfast in 2003 or '04 during a heatwave. I seem to remember the whole show was presented by Dermot & Natasha from the Blue Peter garden, with Moira at the newsdesk in the studio. Does anyone else remember this or am I going crazy in the heat?

Would be nice to see something similar at Salford Quays, but I guess it's not nearly as practical as it was at the old TVC BP garden!

I'm afraid I don't remember this, but I do remember how it was quite exciting when The Big Breakfast used to do the whole show from outside, with the chairs on the lawn, in the Chris and Gaby era they didn't do it very often but it always felt like a bit of fun, and suitably spontaneous. Always love that kind of thing.

This is probably why they don't have lower thirds all the way through on BBC Breakfast: because BBC Salford technology is too ramshackle to tolerate anything beyond a simple clock. It's amateurish.

Can you please explain exactly what has gone wrong and what they should be doing to fix it? Given you're convinced it's clearly so simple and obvious.

Well it’s not good that they can’t get a clock on screen. There must be back up graphics systems in place?

If the issue is that staff are off because they’re self isolating then they should be able to at least talk the staff who are there through it on the phone.

I think one of the last times this happened they used a computer on a simple clock website which they modified to have the red background and possibly with Reith then cropped and resized as an OS.

Maybe not an option this time if any available computers are being used for video links.

Couldn’t the regions have put the clock up over the network feed as the one in Leeds was working
