Well, that's HOW for now...
All the best for him. I don’t a replacement for him as it won’t be the same when he goes. a true legend of the south
Fred Dinenage has been a constant in my life, and I'm rather saddened to hear this news.
One of the finest broadcasters I've ever watched. It's the end of an era.

Wow, I honestly didn't see this coming, this is very sad news to hear, but I'm sure you'll all agree that after many years at ITV Meridian, it is only right that somebody as talented as Fred should spend some time with his family and friends and wish him all the very best for the future.
Fred Has Made My Evenings, So Sad He Is Leaving! All The best For Him! True Legend.

Totally agree. I can imagine they’ll be a lot of people in the south feeling the same, as 38 years is an incredible innings! I couldn’t imagine doing my current job for that long
It’ll be a sad time when he leaves, hopefully they’ll be able to pay tribute to his incredible tenure - as difficult as that can be in the constraints of the show timings!
Really sad about this. He is a legend in the south. I will miss watching him when im in Hampshire . did he make the announcement on air
He really is a legend of local TV. A great loss to the south but good to hear he will keep his hand in with his documentaries and How.
HOW does someone achieve second longest news anchor on ITV… (After Bob Warman??) present on the successor programmes and be loved by the viewers in the South… that’s How ? for now!
Sad to hear, but he's almost 80 so not surprising.
What a career though, started off as a sports presenter, then got his own prime time chat show, we won't mention the bit where he drive to Dundee bare foot while eating Toblerones....

An absolute legend and time to give someone else the chance to create a legacy of their own.

Yes, having watched the programme on ITV +1, I can confirm that he did make his announcement live on air, It was along the lines of after 38 years in this hot seat, I've finally decided to try one or two new things, I'll still be working of course but that Fred now wants space and time with his wife and family, he did say though that he's gonna miss all his colleagues at ITV Meridian and that he's going to miss the viewers as well, he also said he'll be leaving just before christmas and as Sangeeta said live on air, the show goes on.
A true legend and one of the few presenters left with any gravitas. Good luck Fred.
