Fred’s last week this week. I wonder if we get some look backs across this week of Fred’s time at ITV in the South or whether it’ll all be shoehorned into Friday’s show.

I watched the show tonight and they didn't mention it
Freds last show is now Thursday not friday sangeeta has just tweeted
Well I'm assuming he hasn't done a full week in quite some time so it was unlikely to ever be Friday.

Suspect he will get a fair chunk of the show dedicated to him.
The day has finally arrived, and it's going to be an emotional one for those, like me, who have grown up with Fred Dinenage bringing them the regional news for many years.

I've been through the TVL archives this morning and posted a Twitter megathread with a selection of archive images:

I'm not always around for it, but I am pretty sure he has been doing 5 day weeks until fairly recently? He even used to do the late news a few times week too.
Fred will be on the Lunchtime News in a bit.

Thought this was a lovely, warm interview – really nice to watch.
I'm watching Meridian South.

After the 6:10pm junction where the sub-opts end, Sangeeta told Fred that everything he thought was supposed to be happening for the rest of tonight's programme wasn't, and that the remainder would be a celebration of him and his career.

I presume that the Thames Valley got the genuinely live sub-opt this evening, as the Oracle Shopping Centre version of the programme logo was/is lingering on the studio side screens well into the pan-regional section. This unintentional indication of which opt was live is a common occurance.

Even the South East opt was reduced to just 10 minutes today (I flicked between my different Added Channels on Sky, to check), so the Fred-travaganza is live macro-regionally.

I was watching the Thames Valley version, it did include (what was said to be) a live report from the Reading flats fire. I don't normally watch Meridian News, but Fred has been on the telly, for as long as I've been alive, I thought it was a very fitting tribute. Good on you Fred.

Edit: 18:42, report coming up on BBC South Today

I think there is a lot of love for Fred across ITV given the interviews he has done since his announcement. Given that a good number of ITV's talent has either grown up with him or maybe even passed through the same studio as him, it is not surprising.
Here's the Thames Valley edition of tonight's programme...

What a nice send-off and well deserved. Sad to see Fred leave Meridian Tonight—he has been a constant for as long as I’ve been watching TV and although I now live outside the Meridian region, he has reassuringly been on screen whenever I’ve made return visits.
He was in a live interview at the end of BBC South Today, in fact they ran out of time, and hurriedly curtailed the programme. Pity the director didn't ditch the network trailers, and opt back at the start of The One Show. No one at BH would have known!
