Aah that is sad to hear very much a legend and not just for the south as he’s contributed to childrens entertainment and gained national recognition, all the best to him and his family and as someone else said it’s time for someone new to write their history into the broadcasting books.
I live in Manchester but have watched the great @FDinenage on @itvmeridian Fred retires at the end of the year leaving a legacy for us all to look up to. You know How to do it. Good Luck ??
I hope this gets (at least) a mention on the ITV National news when Fred does leave.
I can't say I've seen Fred on the telly (here in UTV land) for many a year, but just watching that clip, he's still got it!! Just how I remembered him on HOW2 with Carol Vorderman and Gareth Jones on CiTV in the early 90's.

I’m in Yorkshire and I have fond memories of Fred’s time on Calendar, where I think he worked as a Sports Reporter. I also have a vague memory of the game show Gambit. I wish him well

Not many presenters who can front a regional news magazine, front crime programmes and feature on a children's TV programme at the same time.
Genuinely shocked because I felt he would keep going until he dropped but glad he's going to make the most of his time.

With Bob I guess he might wait til he’s reached 50 years working for ITV which takes him to 2023 as he joined ATV in 1973. Of course he’s a little younger than Fred and only works a few days a week nowadays so shouldn’t be too hard for him to do.
Though interestingly Fred was born in Birmingham and Bob was born in Walsall, so I’m guessing it’s true Midlands grit that has you working on the screens for so long.

He'd also commentate on football matches during Southern's era. And was Dickie Davies's main stand in on World of Sport for a few years.

...and he was the biographer for the Krays, a gameshow host, a newspaper journalist and failed would-be footballer.
