I couldn't believe Shaun Ley wearing shorts was on the front page of the Sun today. What utter nonsense.

In all seriousness it is supposed to be a serious worldwide news channel so I don't think he should have done it.

I do think it's time that dress codes for male newsreaders/reporters were brought into this century. The apparent insistance on ties and jackets is an anachronism, particularly when you consider that a female counterparts can often be seen in a simple (but smart) tshirt style top.

Why? No one can see it (apart from the unfortunate odd wide shot) and it doesn't affect how they do their job. If the legs were visible (e.g. at the catwalk, at the Breakfast sofa) I get your point, shorts are an absolute no-go. But does it really matter if you can't see them?

Can you imagine the claims of sexism if the same 'criticism' was levelled at a woman. But when its aimed at a man, and in some cases ridiculing him, its deemed as acceptable. Sorry, from the comments I've seen on social media they are/were bordering on sexist.

Good on Shaun is all I can say. If female presenters can wear dresses and skirts, a man should feel free to wear shorts just like the argument over women wearing trousers in the office.

Michael Buerk wore shorts once and no one complained!

And while we're at it, ditch the ties as well. Ros Atkins still looks smart without one when presenting Outside Source (from the desk).

Almost all studios built after 2000 that I’ve worked in have air conditioning. Put the units far away and have it built into the ventilation system and it’s fine.

Just to add my view to the matter, I don't see any particular issue with it. It's not an issue for women to wear something which shows their legs, so I don't see why it should be an issue for a man to do the same.
