An important point was made on loose women, and that was what if there was breaking news that someone had died, or something else of that nature. This is a standard I'm afraid should not be able to slip. I am not saying anything should happen, but in future it would be wise for it not to occur again.
And quite why the presenter was wearing shorts is a bit of a mystery as I am sure he was on the UK news fully dressed before this. You either have the dress policy, or you don't.....

You make quite the assumption that there is a hard and fast policy rather than it just being convention that everyone follows because it's the convention.

To be honest with you I don't know if there is such a policy. However the nature of a news channel is that you could at any time have to report horrible news so dressing smart is the most wise thing to do, plus it adds to the channel as a whole of being a professional operation. If everyone had shorts on and t-shirts it would look a bit silly unless it was aiming for a different audience.

It must get warm in Studio c being in the bunker floor, Yalda Hakim wore torn jeans and trainers but no one complained about that did they yet Shaun Ley wore shorts and it becomes a loose women conversation piece.

Worth noting that Shaun was presenting last night's edition of The Papers and front page of The Sun wasn't included in either review.
I have noticed the attire on the news channel seems more formal then the world news channel where some of its news presenters don’t conforms to the norms of a news channel let alone an international news channel, I imagine it’s really hot in studio c being so lower down though which all those screens and lights.
I think if loose women actually watches the world news channel they would have been on this a lot earlier.

I read a while ago that Richard Uridge used to present Midlands Today in shorts back in the mid 90s, because the studio had no effective air conditioning.
Might have been the pres studio so the likelihood of being caught by a wide shot was slim.
Ultimately if someone is uncomfortably hot then they will do what they need to keep cool.
I suppose it’s about the wider issue of formal wear, a man having shorts on and showing his legs or not having a tie on/top button fastened is considered to be informal. Whereas a quick flick of BBC News presenters over the last 24 hours shows female colleagues wearing dresses that show a certain amount of legs/arms/chest, but that’s still formal :?:
I’ve heard it called the reporters mullet in the US. Instead of business in the front party in the back it’s business up top party on the bottom. Often times it’s jeans or shorts or sneakers
It’s decreased in studios lately as sets have been replaced where desks don’t have wide based, where you are scene standing up now and have full body shots.

I think that’s a very good point. I think men could get away with a button down shirt and a sport coat - like what Business Live did on Fridays and Aaron Hesslehurst does everyday.

It is actually very cool, all of NBH has air con. Especially in basement levels. It is very important of air flow because there are no windows or other sources of fresh air! Not forgetting all the equipment in the building would not behave nicely if it got too hot!
