I thought the production team of Sunday Morning Live was based in Belfast or did it change?

It was in the summer in the atrium occasionally used by Breakfast but was back in London for the last series.

Morning Live though now renting studio space in Manchester rather than using effectively freely available space in London really doesn't seem the best use of the licence fee.

Is the One Show studio technically still meant to be available for educational use during the daytime? I seem to recall that being mentioned in a TVF thread regarding planning permission to use the space as a studio instead of a shop. If so that may be part of the reason why Morning Live is no longer using the space now it's essentially a year round programme, as well as the political reasons.

Is the "educational space" perhaps due to the former BBC Tours of Broadcasting House? When I worked as a tour guide, (if memory serves me correctly) the studio was a good few months in place before tours were allowed to visit, but was used for virtually nothing else other than the live broadcast of The One Show, Sunday Morning Live, plus recordings of Film.

The space at the Media Cafe, overlooking the newsroom was occasionally referred to as an educational space (as it was easily accessible to the public, and included the BBC Shop). Perhaps it all changed round, since The One Show studio was due to be a shop originally.

It's been used a few times by BBC Scotland, most recently (I think) for a multi-faith Sunday morning religious programme called 'Reflections at the Quay' which aired during lockdown in response to churches and places of worship closing down.

The programme was apparently very well received by viewers - and used the same chairs!



There was also a music show called 'The Quay Sessions' from the same spot in the past.

Seeing the Scotland set and the Sunday Morning Live set confirms it for me: the current One Show set is not great.

I'm starting to wonder if Alex Jones only returned from maternity leave for the two episodes that she has so far (20th and 21st October) as a some kind of possible favour to the production team if they were struggling to find presenters, due to the guests on those nights, or even just to give Jermaine and Ronan a quick break; as she isn't down to be hosting the show at all for rest of the month.

Sam Quek, Zoe Ball and Lauren Laverne are all down to co-host with Jermaine/Ronan (delete as appropriate) quite a bit through the rest of November, along with the others regular faces such as Alex Scott and Rylan (who is presenting with JJ Chalmers on Thursday)

I highly doubt that Alex Jones is literally the only person they could find to host those days.

I assumed she just came back to launch the Children in Need initiative.

Well yes, that’s how they worded it. But the fact she’s not going to be around next week in the lead up to CiN, makes it all seem a little bit weird?

Obviously the fact they have 2 male co-hosts across a normal week now makes it slightly messier than when Alex used to host 5 days alongside rotating co-hosts. It is a shame they can’t find a bit more consistency, it feels very much “pick 2 names out of a hat” at the moment.

Side note, wonder why The One Show is only on iPlayer for a month, but Morning Live stays on for a year?

Possibly a contractual thing with the Indies who make some of the packages?

BBC One Scotland will be showing the First Minister's address about Omicron etc at 7pm.

The EPG lists The One Show as starting at 7:05pm. But, having already watched her address at 6pm on ITV Border, I know that it's 6-7 minutes long.

I wonder whether there'll be a clean opt-in point (and hopefully some form of "and now we welcome viewers in Scotland" acknowledgement from The One Show presenters), or if BBC One Scotland will horribly crash into the middle of an item?

EDIT: Reporting Scotland ended at 18:58, and was immediately followed by an adapted version of the red "blip" being used as in ident (with the "BBC One Scotland" text remaining large and in the centre of the circle/orb throughout, rather than splitting to the top & bottom of the screen, and with a Subtitles tag in the top-right), with a CA into the First Minister's statement.

The same red blip/ident was used as an outro announcement after the First Minister's address. One short trailer for a BBC Scotland channel programme was shown, then a Shaun the Sheep ident into The One Show. Crashed into Jermaine Jenas mid-sentence, and no acknowledgement of the late-joining Scottish viewers.

And The One show recapped for Scottish viewers what was coming up after they had introduced everyone in the other Nations

Scotland was 10 seconds late in opting back, so missed the welcome and the names of Elton John and Ed Sheeran.
