Did somebody get Cornwall and Cardiff mixed up?
To me, every development about Newsnight these days gives off a strong Doctor Who in the late-80s vibe. It seems to be perpetually surprised that it hasn't been axed despite BBC higher-ups clear apathy towards it. Generally, when long-running shows enter the 'moved from regular scheduled slot, not being able to find a regular studio, sent out to tour the regions' phase, it isn't a good sign.

No, it's the first of the 'on the road' type set ups.

I wonder what studio they'll be in at Central Square is that's what NN are using - given the large(st) studio on the ground floor (the one with the windows) has been set up for BBC Cymru Wales coverage of the Euros. Maybe they'll use the main BBC Wales Today/Newyddion studio, as I doubt that Newsnight would be in the CSO studio.

Or the atrium perhaps...or maybe the Central Square staff canteen?
They're using the atrium. Looks fab.

Wow a pretty impressive set up.
Wow! Really puts London to shame! Gorgeous set.

My only criticism is it’s possibly too large, over spacious. What happened to good size studios being built, why is it nowadays it’s either in a cupboard or an atrium? Studio B NBH was perfect.

Still, Cardiff over the current London set anyday!
If you were thinking that maybe Newsnight had nicked a set from someone else, you'd be right - they're using the set-up of late night current affairs show Wales Live:

Looking on iPlayer they even seem to be using the atrium in the same way as Wales Live has been when it's on air.

I wonder where the the Newsnight roadshow will take them next - live from the BBC Oxford broom cupboard studio perhaps?
Belfast would be nice. If the Newsline late bulletin came from a CSO set and newsnight uses the main studio
I am desperate for a tour around BBC Central Square. That building is truly beautiful. They've done an incredible job.

BBC Bristol and BBC Belfast are also getting massive upgrades and expansions.
Newsnight will be presented from Salford on Friday.

Ooh good, I do hope they do it from the sport set so we can reignite the debate about Breakfast moving there.
Is this a weekly thing now? I think they should just pick a permanent "out of London" location, and present it from there a couple of times each week.

I think, like the Today programme, the concept was to become much more reflective of the whole of the UK - rather than just one fixed 'not London' location. Of course, this throws up a few challenges but I also think it's quite useful for the programme teams in thinking through what they base and from where. I wouldn't be surprised, for example, if you start to see some of the longer form packages being scheduled to reflect the area they're talking about (I'm thinking here of some of Lewis's excellent pre-Covid reports in the North-East which would have benefitted from a local discussion).

In short: I'm in favour of it.

I doubt it considering the England and Scotland game this evening. Hoping it’s the same kind of set up from the newsroom that we saw on Breakfast a couple of weeks ago.
