Thanks for that. Was a big fan of his YTV show of the same name many years ago… nice to see him back on TV.

According to the Telegraph, Murdoch may axe the channel if it does not improve soon, or even possibly make a bid for GB News. But they will try and turn it around according to "insiders".

He was very ill with cancer a few years ago, I've not heard any update as to how he is. But presumably that's why he broadcasts from home

The writer of the article suggests that one way will be for them to buy GB News, but that's not actually based on anything, the article is very speculative. 

One bit that did interest me is this:

What's more, speculation that Rebekah Brooks has been distancing herself from the channel by telling people that it was not her idea will do little to galvanise staff for the battle ahead. 

That'll be the same Rebekah Brooks who cancelled the first incarnation of News UK's TV plans as they had decided they weren't economically viable

To be fair it’s just a simulcast of Talk Radio for 21 hours a day. Apart from Piers Morgan’s salary, it can’t be that costly to run?

No TV channel is ever cheap.  The low end is still in the millions of pounds.  Let's be honest, Piers studio and show, probably take up at least half the budget overall.  Everything else is the rest.  You can tell that the simulcast part has had almost no money spent on it.

Just the carriage itself - getting it onto DTT, satellite and cable is probably the biggest cost. 

Piers is being paid a lot of money by News UK but not just for his programme. I'd have thought that would also pay for the production of the programme itself as its his production company, that includes hire of the studio (it's Timeline studios in Ealing). 

The radio simulcast did mostly exist prior to the TV channel launching and the setup at the baby shard was only a couple of years old. The only money spent would be on providing things like split ad breaks and news

Piers Morgan extended to 2 hours tonight, 8pm-10pm.

I wonder how the ratings will hold up, and what will happen to "The Talk" usually on at 9pm.

I'd imagine they'll collapse even further as for a real story people will turn to BBC News and Sky News, plus it's highlight likely they'll be coverage on the main channels too.

It'll mess things up for the schedule, as the Piers repeat won't fit into the 11pm slot nor will they have The Talk to repeat at 4am.

Unless they shift 9pm/10pm back to 10pm/11pm.

Everything has been extended to 2 hour editions tonight:

6pm - The Newsdesk
8pm - Piers Morgan Uncensored
10pm - The Talk

I thought they'd go for a phone in instead of what Sharon Osbourne thinks? Bad move.

Surely Daisy McAndrew is better for tonight's events than the likes of Osbourne & Kyle? I hope that The Talk at least has some decent panelists to cover it because Osbourne isn't going to bring much to the table.

The Talk seems a bad call but an opportunity to test if their shows can be fleshed out to two hours - it's far easier to double their airtime that way than to add extra programmes.
