They should've done what I thought they would do: use the money to massively upgrade their online video content for their newspapers. The future is digital. They should have created a News UK Video Department (or something) with top-tier reporters, camera operators, technicians, producers etc and use them to create content branded by either The Sun or The Times and host it entirely on their newspapers' websites and social media accounts and YouTube channels. Standalone shows like Piers Morgan Uncensored could've been a YouTube show as well. TalkRadio should've stayed as it is but with bigger video content for online viewers. It's not like it's behind a paywall as it is.

That’s basically what TalkTV have done, because the Radio stuff was running online anyway.

GB News went full throttle though, 6am-midnight live from the start which clearly was very difficult for the team to produce. Their strength is still the evening opinion block as they were quick to go for the opinion juggler, but lets face facts, the market for right-wing debate is still small as shown in the BARB for both GBN and TalkTV, while TalkRadio's Rajar shows then at least 1.5m short of the editorially more level LBC.

You can’t really make a fair comparison because LBC has a long history and an FM outlet in London.

I think it's a bit of both. What GB News did was very ambitious, starting from absolute scratch and coming up with brand new programmes for 18 hours a day. With the state their studio and technical facilities we're in they should definately have scaled it down for launch, it was 18 hours a day of poorly made TV.

Talk is different - it's not a new startup, has a higher budget and lots of experience both within the building and corporately. But bhey're doing 4 hours a day of TV which from what I've seen looks fairly competent and decently made.

Problem is though that it has no inheritance from the daytime, its just 20 hours of filler of camera in a radio studio, it's well done but not exactly that inviting.

The other factor that occurs to me is that when GB News wasn't working they could shuffle presenters and formats around. Every new channel has a bit of a shuffle in the first few months and maybe a soft relaunch too. Problem Talk TV has is that it's flagship show is half its weekday schedule and its only on for 4 hours a day. That's more difficult for them should they need to make changes, they've got to hire new people or bring across radio presenters. Moving Mike Concrete to peak time isn't going to work like doing the same with Colin Brazier
Mike "you can grow concrete" Graham is on prime time Saturdays I believe alongside Kevin O'Sullivan. Not the most enticing duo for a Saturday night prime time to watch from 7pm to 10pm.

I saw a quick 5 mins on Saturday of their show, and it looks awful. Leaving their content aside, their presentation was dreadful. Both men sat so close together with a one camera shot of them and that was it.

You think being owned by Rupert Murdoch, they could have least given a few extra pounds spent on a second camera and a slightly bigger studio set up for them, as they looked so squashed together onscreen.
Obvious opinion coming up- but the visual unevenness of the channel is another of the weird characteristics of Talk TV. Tune in at 8pm and you’re hit by the sheen of PMU, but watch at that time on a weekend and it’s about the most amateur-looking TV you’ve ever seen.
In an ideal world, they'd have a radio desk in a television studio as they do in France which keeps elements of the radio station, such as being able to play jingles etc, but also have a video wall for news headlines or other segments.

The UK is still a relative newcomer to radio on television on a daily basis, so we're still playing catch-up in regards to presentation and being practical, but fixed cameras on a presenter in a radio studio rarely works. Mainland Europe does this a lot better.
77,000 viewers for Piers Morgan last night, compared to 84,000 for Sky News and 127,000 for BBC News:

I think that is where the show will settle, around 100k over or under. Interesting that it was beaten by the other 2 last night though, as that has been what Piers has shouted about on Twitter when quoting the figures. (although I guess it's quite a tight game as an extra 50k-ish would have put him on top)

Not sure how accurate it is but the schedule has Jeremy Kyle down for breakfast on Friday and then back on 1-4pm. Plus no Piers repeats on Sunday this week.
Like with GB News people actually willing to give it a chance but soon drift back. The trouble is Piers has pigeon-holed himself in the anti-woke mould which limits not just the audience but what the show centres on.
He's running out of options to spin the figures and all of the non-News UK aligned media have really piled on about the ratings. It was all inevitable really for someone that goes on about ratings so much.

It's also quite dull to watch as well.

If anything, PMU has exposed Piers' weaknesses given he's front and centre.
I hadn't looked through my car's DAB station list until today. The radio station is now called 'TalkRadio-TalkTV' what a mess
It's not really a good idea for the name to be so specific about one platform when you are multi-platform.

Given that the parent company is News UK, Talk UK would have been a better fit.
Piers' show at this point is just showing how great Susanna was as a co-host. The pairing is what made Piers work so well on GMB - on his own, well, it's a bit of a mess.

Will still watch as Erron & co's camera work is a show in itself!
