Bit of a can of worms here, but wanted to discuss Hairspray Live, as I came across it this afternoon and am blown away by the scale and scope of this production. Just check the opening number, it really is amazing.
There was a live audience as well, and they are spread out across all the different sets and studios - witnessing the whole thing on screens.
Naturally, it opens up loads of questions - and although it was 5 years ago, I think it's still worth discussing!

I'm surprised that they only used 18 cameras? surely, given the fact that it was shot in the backlot at Universal Studios, LA with lots of sets that the cast would be transported between on golf carts - there would be so much more than just 18? That said, for the behind the scenes live stream, there were 38 used, with go-pro like angles/shots.
How were the cast mic'ed? Lapel/headset or with shotguns etc ?
was the orchestra backing fed into their ears via IFB or played over loudspeakers (which I think you can see on the BTA)
What I also find interesting is the 'prop' cameras in the 'TV studio' set are actually live, and very real. It appears when Corny Collins speaks into the 60's looking camera, that the shot is taken and broadcast out (as well as pictures from the 'TV Studio' being fed to the prop TV in Tracy's living room...
With regards to the steadicam assistant, why is he holding a long pole with like a claw at the end of it? Trying to work out what that is...
Any answers to these questions would be really appreciated as it's already getting my inquisitive juices flowing!
