Recycling old One Show reports on Morning Live?
#1
I’ve just watched a report on ‘Morning live’ this morning about a warehouse that has opened selling items that are close to there use by date and items after there best before dates.

Nothing wrong with it however it will filmed when it was snowing and no masks or social distancing was taking place.

This suggests the report at its very latest was filmed in early March 2020.

My question is why is the show short of fresh content and who was the report filmed for in the first place as ‘Morning live’ didn’t start until last September? ( so maybe the one show?).I am guessing an item had to be dropped at the last minute and this report was a standby filler?

I’ve seen that feature on The One Show before.

Perhaps something has happened over the last year which might have caused difficulty in filming new reports?

I think it's always been the attention content would be shared - most times I've caught Morning Live it's included films flagged as being filmed before the pandemic and obviously reuses reports keeps costs down and enables them to reach viewers they may not have reached on their first airing. Will be interesting though to see if it becomes more distinct from The One Show once it moves to Salford.

On the other hand it's a bit of a waste for this content to only be seen once.

I've often thought that a compilation of (carefully selected) One Show reports could be a decent BBC One daytime equivalent of Coast as a standby
Write that down in your copybook now

I don't really see the problem. I notice how your logic wasn't that you'd seen it before, but that it was snowing. Therefore, they hit a different audience, in your case at least. It's a daytime show, it's good to be cost effective.

Television is not cheap to make and recycling reports whether it's Countryfile or The One Show probably happens more than we think since it's very unlikely people would watch both The One Show and Morning Live on a regular basis.

If they're generic enough they could fit in any suitable show. Ideal for the end of year "Best of" shows I'd have thought, assuming they still do those sort of cheap end of year fillers.

Of course other shows recycle elements of their programming, just look at "Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals", blatant recycling there, the last ten minutes or so of a few episodes of the main show with a couple of new voiceovers. Doesn't get any cheaper than that.

Even Naked Attraction have started going over old ground. Can't imagine it was that expensive a show in the first place :o

There's a lot of Channel 4 & 5 stuff going over old ground recently (Location Location Location, Ben Fogle) to name two.

I suspect it's COVID related than for anything to do with cost.

Oftentimes shows or news reports have content that is considered “evergreen” that is it can be played relatively any time or place. It could be a feature about a business or a product or a location.

In 2020 there were at least two instances of Early Today where they aired a back up tape. The one in October it’s headlines included arming teachers, children mining minerals, what happens to recycled plastic and a pilot shortage in the Air Force. https://youtu.be/hHXfXpcg1s4

I don’t know if the shows made it on later in the morning. Early Today does 3 - 30 minute episodes and affiliates are expected to clear one episode in front of their local morning news. The 90 minute block is repeated up til 7AM PT with updates.

Is that a Christmas tree in the background?

If it's revisit episodes then that was fairly common even before Covid, it's a cost effective way of stretching out a series and for programmes like Grand Designs where it can be years before a project is complete, a necessity.

More "Best of" episodes, which would usually probably be one or two episodes but instead being stretched out a bit further than perhaps they should.
