Taskmaster

Channel 4 has released a list of comedians competing in the next series:

• Alan Davies
• Victoria Coren-Mitchell
• Guz Khan
• Desiree Burch
• Morgana Robinson

I've struggled with this series (though Mike Wozniak stole the show twice tonight) but looking forward to seeing how VCM gets on.

That's a pretty decent line up actually - looking forward to it already!

I do think the show is struggling with the fact a lot of mainstream comedians had already done it while on Dave!

Although, the New Years Day special kind of showed you don't just need to be a comedian to be entertaining in the Taskmaster house...

Slightly spoilt by the NME website announcing them earlier in the day and then realising they'd jumped the gun and taking the article down.

Another good line up, Alan Davies seems to me is that he's already done it, it's so up his street. Victoria Coren Mitchell is a great choice too. It's going to take a lot to beat the series that's just ended, it was one of the best

I wonder when this was filmed? The tasks for series 10 and 11 were done at the beginning of 2020, but whereas 10 had lots of tasks that were obviously socially distanced, series 11 didn't seem to . Either they did those first or they got better at making it look normal.

Presumably series 12 was done late summer/autumn, the studio sessions were done a couple of months ago and the audience showings this week. They're doing a champion of champions as well so presumably that was done alongside 12?

I don't think they're struggling, there's not exactly a shortage of comedians, both newcomers and household names.

They've had non-comedians on the line ups since series 2 (Richard Osman, Alice Levine, Lisa Tarbuck etc) but always with some background in comedy and as part of a mix. I don't think the New Years one worked that well, it needs some comic input

Mike Wozniak was the best thing about the whole series, yes it's toilet humour but the fart task was one of the best taskmaster moments of all time

I sort of agree, yes the household names took part on Dave but some of the people on it in recent times I haven't really heard of such as Mike Wozniak, Mawaan Rizwan, Phil Wang and I have enjoyed them especially Mike he is my favourite of all time. They have always had that mix of well known and it is still so watchable. Whether they would do it or not is a question but you have people like David Mitchell, Rob Brydon, Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr and probably much more I have forgotten so not completely done yet for talent.

Bothers Bar said the studio sessions are being filmed over the next week or so, so presumably with a live audience of some kind. Hopefully it isn't just screenings like you suggest as I really think more than most Taskmaster misses the live audience.

Hopefully they do the Champions of Champions at Christmas rather than the "New Years Treat", though they could have aired it last year really. IMO it is something they should do every other Christmas with the 4 most recent champions and the returning Champion of Champions.

The most recent series is the first that I've watched, so it seems perfectly normal without an audience. It'll probably feel stranger watching a series that does have one again.

I feel the show suffers from not having a live audience, and these recent Channel 4 series just haven't felt the same as the older ones. Hopefully this new series has some form of live audience when recording the studio bits.

It's cinema recordings again - some people have already been to the screenings over on the Taskmaster Reddit. A great shame for me, as I think it's the comedy show that has suffered the most with the "virtual audience" - even then it's not properly virtual.

The studio bits have all already been filmed a while back, according this https://www.reddit.com/r/taskmaster/comm..._upcoming/ which is a great bit of sleuthing on Desiree last month before the formal announcement was made yesterday.

The smaller not-live audience hasn't served the show very well for the past 2 seasons, but having people in a cinema watching and reacting to the taping is the best they could achieve up to now.

This series has felt flatter, but Mike Wozniak has definitely stolen the show on several occasions providing probably the funniest moments of all time.

The new lineup seems strong so I'm looking forward to it. I think we're also overdue a champion of champions season now too?

Presuming that the next series won't air until the autumn, it seems that they have filmed the studio bits rather early. They could have held out to see if they would be able to have a live audience over the next few months.

The Taskmaster podcast answered my question about series 11....

The individual tasks at the house were all pre-covid (they'd not have been able to do the weighing task last night otherwise) the ones at the airfield and the group tasks were covid restricted, but they worked round them and distancing is barely noticible.

In series 10 it was a lot more obvious and it had some tasks with both covid and non covid inserts, which means they filmed a lot of series 11 before series 10

It's been the best series and line up for a while, there were very few duff moments. Mike was great and provided two of the greatest moments in the history of the programme, but they all had their individual moments.

The line up is strong, but that isn't always a good indication, Johnny Vegas didn't live up to expectations on it for example. Though I have high hopes for Victoria Coren Mitchell, she apparently brings a unique amount of logic and argument

Champion of Champions is happening but of course couldn't be done until after series 10 had finished production. So I assume they will have filmed that while they were in production for series 12

Did they have a podcast this series? If so it wasn't advertised anywhere near as much as the first C4 series.
