ITV's Iconic "World of Sport"

It was a staple in my home growing up. Every Saturday. I was always intrigued by the different musical arrangements they had for going to and coming back from every break. This clip below plays one such example.

But there were many more different jingles in the library.

I always wondered: were the typists in the background purely there for show, or were they actually typing out Dickie's scripts? If the latter, I'm sure they typed far more than he could ever say during a single broadcast.

And if they actually WERE typing his scripts, from where are they getting the data to do so?

I loved World of Sport too, despite having no interest in sport. I loved the look of it, the graphics, the studio, Dickie (of course) and the music, especially the music. The break stings were odd because they bore no relation to the theme, but I loved them anyway... used to have all of them on a cassette (recorded off the telly), but lost it somewhere along the way and have been trying to find them again online ever since, but to no avail.

As for the typists, I'm assuming there must have been a letter in Look-In from a viewer asking the same thing, there's no other reason I'd have this in my head. They were LWT secretaries (or from the typing pool) who would bring there work into Studio 5 on a Saturday afternoon to add a bit of drama and urgency to the proceedings.
