Was just tweeting something to Mike a few moments ago (see below) and noticed his twitter handle has changed (no longer contains BBC) and his bio has also changed.
I hope Mike hasn’t left!

It’ll be a shame if he has gone without a send off or even a mention.

Maybe he's retiring? He's 65.
I guess we’ll find out if he appears tomorrow morning or not.
Edit:
And he has! He’s still there.

I shall miss him too. I’ve watched Mike on World since 1997! (In fact, he shared weekend duties with his regional colleague Gwennan Edwards back in the day.......).
What a pro.

OMG what a shame. Mike Embley is one of the legends of BBC World News. Does anyone know if he is retiring or moving to another broadcaster? Part of me wonders if Al Jazeera is back snapping up well known broadcasters. But he is in his mid-60s and could just be retiring.

It really is a sorry and sad state of affairs when the BBC just seem to be bleeding their best talent. Whether it’s driven by cuts, , jumping ships etc - it’s pretty awful to witness.
Wouldn’t it be great if people stopped jumping to the idea that someone is retiring because they are of a certain age. He’s only 65, Jon Snow is 73, Dimbleby was 80 when he stepped back - still active BTW.
Very sorry to see Mike leave. As someone who suffers from insomnia half the time, he’d be on when I was awake trying to sleep. I also remember him from way back when he did Newsroom Southeast.
What a shame!

It’s a real shame to see the BBC lose another one of its best and long serving presenters.
