I haven’t seen this programme mentioned on the forum yet, but is worth a mention due to it covering the protests towards the ITV Telethon by the “P*ss on pity” campaign. I do know how we like a discussion on the ITV Telethon now and again…!

Some archive footage gets used, including the clip that used to be on YouTube of protestors invading the studio and interrupting Clare Rayner causing Michael Aspel to swiftly cross to a VT.

This was also covered on Monday’s The One Show, which was quite intriguing to see them discuss the ITV Telethon on prime time BBC One 30 years on!

Watched it just now, very powerful, cleaver use of the itv telethon footage and the London studios as some looked like old footage and some more recent, was an eye opener of the program

Caught this by accident the other night and it's excellent. I knew about the anti-Telethon protests but not the wider context behind them.

I'm not sure it was the sole reason there weren't any more Telethons, the changes in ITV in 1993 were probably a factor too. ITV did do other fundraising days and events, just not in a Telethon format. Besides there would have been no reason why they couldn't have had still done one just for a different cause.


Incidently, until I just looked it up I hadn't realised that the ITV Telethon only raised money for disability charities, I had assumed it was for all sorts of different causes
