Not surprising given the people behind the forum but I think for many of us older folk whilst presentation is what bought us into this community initially as time goes on and we learned more our interest spreads to the wider aspects of the industry, such as broadcasting rights, commissioning and how TV companies work and what motivates their decisions.

Even with the Chameleon roll out over the last year so much more of the talk has been about the rollout and the decisions behind that rather than the end product on screen.

Indeed, look at the first page of the ‘presentation’ forum here, and how many threads are actually about presentation. Not many.

I'm not sure this is what they're after.

I love the name but the place is rather devoid of character currently. The fact the team are weirdly nameless probably doesn't help.

I'm not sure what the thinking was with creating so many threads upfront either, all feels a bit forced.

Excuse me for being thick but what is the link to Pres Cafe?

The 'Mark all forums read' button actually doesn't work on that website.

Not sure I'm overly keen on the 'admin' creating lots of generic threads for us to post stuff in that specific thread. Much prefer users being able to start their own threads as and when the need arise. Feels rather clinical to me. Still, their forum, their rules.
Formerly 'Charlie Wells' of TVForum.

It's an awful name. I'm never keen on the term 'pres' in this sort of context anyway (not helped by the way barcode has mangled it over the years) but like others I can't help hearing 'pres cafe pres cafe, the better way to start the day!

Have fun there

Oh I really like the name. It’s what it’s about.

I’ve never come to this site - nor the one before it - to talk about TV, ie the actual programmes. I can do that with my mates. I come here to talk about TV presentation, graphic design, that sort of stuff.

I keep reading it as “pre’s” (grocers apostrophe for emphasis) as in pre-drinks before a night out.

Probably for the best to do that after what happened to Rob though. Going to be harder for the usual suspects to harrass and abuse the mods if they keep their identities private.

I notice you know who tried to sign up on there, but their account hasn't been activated- he can't hurl abuse at the mods for that if he doesn't know who they are. Whereas TV Talk have let him on and have named mods, which is likely going to come back to bite them when he inevitably says something that gets him banned.

It’d be better if the mods at least just used their first name

I think given what has happened with Rob if they wanted to just present themselves as anonymous moderators that is understandable.

I haven't signed up to it yet - is it true that ordinary users can't create new threads? That seems unnecessarily restrictive, if it's correct.

The radio section is a nice addition. I'm just as interested in radio as I am in television, if not more so (because I listen to a lot more live radio than I watch live television these days). The DS radio section is a bit negative for my taste, so a new place to discuss radio presentation and tech would be a good thing, but not if we can't start discussions!

No, ordinary users can create threads, just the admins started lots of their own threads as well.
